Colombian singer Karol G tests positive for coronavirus… despite rapper boyfriend Anuel AA testing negative

Karol G revealed she had tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday.

The 29-year-old Colombian singer announced that she had been diagnosed with COVID-19 after she got a test in Miami, Florida, over the weekend.

Despite testing positive for the illness, her boyfriend, the Puerto Rican rapper Anuel AA, tested negative.

A Spanish-language Los Angeles Times article reported that the singer ‘has no idea how she got sick, since she has been very careful, initially respecting the quarantine and later the norms of social distancing and the use of masks.’

Karol seems to have documented her flaunting of quarantine recommendations with multiple photos of her having a blast on boats in recent months.

Though some of the photos she posted to Instagram featured her with a mask down around her neck, none featured her with the mask on her face.

Her musician boyfriend Anuel AA got tested at the same time out of caution, though his results came back negative.

The couple’s publicity team revealed that Karol’s recent posts were older photos and videos, as they didn’t want to alarm her 30.8 million Instagram followers with recent images of her as she battled the illness.

‘She is feeling pretty bad,’ said one source close to her.

Karol had been noticeably absent when it came to promoting her new single Ay, DiOs Mío!, which was reportedly because she had moved out of the apartment she shares with Anuel into another unit so as to avoid contaminating the space.

Karol G was the subject of controversy in late May after she shared a photo of her black and white dog and compared it to the Black Lives Matter movement and protests against systemic racism.

The singer shared a photo of her black and white spotted dog, stating, ‘The perfect example that [the color] black and white together look beautiful. #BlackLivesMatter.’

The tweet was deleted shortly thereafter, leading the singer (real name: Carolina Giraldo Navarro) to post a bi-lingual apology on Twitter.

She and her rapper beau are based in Florida, which is currently experiencing a record surge in coronavirus cases due to its refusal to shut down many public businesses and crowds of young people and tourists who discounted the possibility of getting sick.

As of Saturday, the state had reported a whopping 15,300 new cases, which was almost as much as the entire nation reported from late January through late March.

Florida has resisted requiring masks in public places, and as of Monday, the state has more coronavirus cases than all but a few countries.

Meanwhile, California and Oregan have rolled back many of their public openings.
