Kate Ceberano reveals which hit song she will no longer perform as it’s ‘just yuck’ and no longer politically correct

Kate Ceberano has shunned one of her biggest hits because she feels it’s too ‘yuck’ to perform these days.

Appearing on The Sunday Project this weekend, the singer, 54, was asked by host Tommy Little if ‘young boys were still her weakness’ – a reference to her 1989 single, Young Boys Are My Weakness.

The performer replied, laughing: ‘No, I think we’re going to leave those things to the kerb-side.

‘It seemed to be cute at the time and I remember as a 17-year-old girl, “Young boys are my weakness.” As a 50 plus woman, it is just yuck.’

The track, which peaked at number 15 on the ARIA charts, features the lyrics: ‘Young boys are my weakness, I just like their sweetness’.

Further lyrics state: ‘Some boys really make me swing. There ain’t nothin’ like a pretty young thing,’  and ‘I know what to say when they call me on the phone. You call me back when your momma ain’t home’.

In the music video, Kate, who was in her early 20s at the time, seductively dances and sings alongside a number of young men, shown in partial shadow.

‘It was like a remedy. It was like the very thing we all needed just to get through. I’m glad we did it.

‘Even when I look at the video footage, none of us were bothered about the face or the hair or the make-up or how we’re looking in this scene.

‘It was, “No mate, we’re making music and it means something for us to be together,”‘ she said.
