Kath & Kim star Magda Szubanski accuses Pete Evans of ‘FAT-SHAMING’ her in a fiery rant

Australian actress and comedian Magda Szubanski, 59, has accused controversial chef Pete Evans, 47, and his followers of ‘fat-shaming’ her.

The Kath & Kim star exploded at the Paleo advocate in a series of fiery tweets on Tuesday.

It came after former MKR star Pete called the new advertisements that Magda stars in for the Victorian government about COVID-19, ‘the most offensive and disgraceful’ he’s ever seen.

‘I’m sick of skinny people assuming they’re superior’: On Tuesday, Kath & Kim star Magda Szubanski accused Pete Evans of ‘FAT-SHAMING’ her in a fiery rant

Magda first shared a screenshot of Pete’s post and the remarks of some of his followers that trolled her.

‘The cow is mentally ill and the other sickos want to further their careers and do deals with the devil,’ one user wrote.

Another cruelly added, in reference to Magda’s 1995 film, Babe: ‘At least the other PIG in the movie Babe had some depth of character.’

‘Let’s give it a try shall we… spread love, be free, eat anti-inflammatory healthy food, hug each other,’ he said in part of the post.

Magda fired up, saying she was ‘sick of skinny people.’

‘Frankly I am sick to f**king death of skinny people (yes Pete Evans and your followers) assuming they are morally and spiritually superior.’

She then shared a picture of her Polish grandmother, who she described as ‘fat,’ and said she was being fat-shamed.

‘Fat-shaming me and assertion that fat people have no place in discussion about public health not only insults me but also all the fat nurses, doctors, ambos etc who give so much. My Polish gran was fat and a nurse and she risked her life to hide Jews from the Nazis,’ Magda wrote, adding: ‘Fatties Unite.’

Magda went on to say that she was ‘raised on vitamins’ after her father got cancer and then probed Pete about how many of his followers had lost weight using Pete’s controversial Paleo diet.

She then went on to say that ‘obesity is very complex.’

‘Wondering just how many fat people Pete Evans has helped lose weight…AND KEEP IT OFF LONG TERM? I’m talking 5, 10 15 years. If he can prove that, then Pete, let’s chat. And let me be clear, I was raised on alternative eating. It can be helpful…but obesity is very complex.’

Pete hit back at Magda on Tuesday and clarified that he was not ‘fat-shaming’ her.

He shared on Instagram a screenshot of a news article saying Magda accused him of fat-shaming and denied it.

‘Nope. I never said it and never will. All I said was the ads on TV using these people are the most disgraceful and offensive I have ever seen. Get your facts right media and I have always loved Magda as an artist.’

He added the hashtag: ‘Fact-shaming.’

It comes after Magda hit back at online trolls after she was bombarded with abuse for urging Victorians to follow lockdown orders.

The 59-year-old made the plea during an appearance on the Victorian government sponsored campaign, ‘Staying Safe is in Our Hands’.

She reprised her role as Sharon Strzelecki, from hit show Kath and Kim, and told viewers: ‘The sooner we obey the rules the sooner this will be OVAH.’

Though Magda told Today on Monday the video has made her the target of online trolls and harsh name calling.

‘Anecdotally, an E-security person told me it was right up there with some of the worst trolling that they had seen,’ she said.

‘Some of the personal attacks are really nasty, but I’ve been called everything from a puppet of the couplist party to the murderer of the people.

‘Being accused of being a supporter of lockdown and thereby causing murders is pretty confronting.’

In the short video, Magda was shown trying to play netball without a team, before she ‘subbed’ herself out of the game and delivered her powerful message.

The video is part of the wider Victorian government campaign, ‘Staying Safe is in Our Hands’ campaign.

The Project host Waleed Aly, AFLW star Tayla Harris, and comedians Shane Jacobson and Nazeem Hussain also make appearances.

The campaign has been blasted as ‘condescending’ and ‘lame’ with both the actors and state premier Daniel Andrews in the firing line.
