Katie Price reveals 29-stone son Harvey, 18, has lost weight and is thriving in his own home

Katie Price has revealed son Harvey, 18, is ‘loving’ his new home after he moved out in a bid to prepare him for independent living.

Last month, the model revealed her son is living in his own three-bedroom house with CCTV cameras across the road from her before he begins staying in full-time care at a specialist college.

And in an appearance on Friday’s Loose Women, Katie, 42, explained the move has been helping Harvey prepare – even if it has been testing for her.

Katie explained that she wanted to make the transition ‘slowly’ and in a  a way that would be ‘fun’ for Harvey.

Clarifying that he’s not there on his own, and is also monitored by cameras, she added: ‘I am there all the time as well but it gives him his own space to start learning independent skills.

‘He is absolutely loving it because I fill it up with all his shower gels and his deodorants.’

Katie then said the move has helped Harvey get healthier, as she hasn’t stocked the cupboards with snacks – which Harvey would usually take for himself at night in their family home.

She explained: ‘I think he has actually lost weight. In the actual household, he is quite disruptive, in the night he goes in the cupboards and eats the food because that’s his Prada Willi.

‘But in that house, I don’t put anything in the cupboards that he can get so he can’t snack in the night. Not all the doors are banging, there is not all the chaos there, so he is calm there.’

Katie also revealed she is planning to launch a petition that will stop people with autism and learning disabilities being sectioned.

She previously confessed her fears that son Harvey could be ‘forcibly injected with drugs’ after meeting a fellow mum to an autistic son who was sectioned.

Speaking on Loose Women, Katie admitted that the thought has ‘frightened’ her so much, that she is determined to do something about it.

She told the panel: ‘That really frightened me. It’s tragic. If you put Harvey in a room, he wouldn’t understand why he’s in that room and he would kick off.’

Katie previously discussed her feelings during a conversation with Isabelle Garnett – a mother whose autistic son had been sectioned – on her documentary, Katie Price: Harvey and Me.

During the chat, Katie said: ‘This is bad. Hearing some stories on people who have been sectioned is awful. I can see they’ve got similarities to what Harv’ is like. They were scared.

‘Imagine Harvey being sectioned, being put in a room. He wouldn’t cope. That would finish anyone off, surely.’

It is reported that Harvey, who is on the autism spectrum and was born with disabilities including partial blindness, ADHD and Prader-Willi syndrome, could be sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

His conditions can promote mood swings and violent behaviour, leaving Katie concerned she can no longer restrain the 6ft2in and 29 stone teen.

The star’s concerns were heightened after learning about autistic teenager, Matthew Garnett, 15, who was put in a mental health inpatient unit for 15 months in 2015 after his mental health deteriorated.

His mother, Isabelle, confirmed she lost all rights as a parent to her son while his was in the facility as she recalled the traumatic experience. She also said he was forcibly injected with high doses of anti-psychotic medication.

This isn’t the first time Katie has tried her hand at making a positive impact, as she started Harvey’s Law in March 2017, opening a petition to make online abuse a crime.

Katie’s petition to criminalise trolling received over 220,000 signatures, and led to a parliamentary inquiry into online abuse.

Katie then used her platform to help educate people on learning disabilities, with the release of her documentary with Harvey.

The show followed Katie as she looked into residential colleges for Harvey to stay in now that he has turned 18.

Speaking about the response to the show, she told the Loose Women: ‘It just goes to show the connection we have and how hard it is. Hopefully it was educational to people. I am just a mum with a child who has complex needs.’

Confirming that there will be a follow-up documentary, Katie continued: ‘With Harvey it is very rewarding. It can be challenging at times but what people need to remember is I don’t know any different.

‘I had him when my career started so he has been with me through everything and we just know each other so well…

‘These colleges are four hours away and to me it’s like, “Oh my god, he is going” but I have to say to myself, “Kate, he is not gone forever. You can still see him, you communicate with him” and I can’t be selfish.

Katie has Harvey from a relationship with Dwight Yorke, Junior, 15, and Princess, 13, with ex-husband Peter Andre, Jett, seven, and Bunny, six, with her third ex-husband Kieran Hayler.

Elsewhere on the show, Katie spoke about the news that she is now registered disabled and ‘waddles like a duck’ after being left in constant pain since breaking both her feet in 25 foot fall.

She revealed: ‘They said it would take 18 months before I could walk again, I have started to walk a bit now, it has been about eight months… I am now regarded disabled, I can get a blue badge.

‘I can only be on my feet for about twenty minutes a day and I will never be able to run again. So all those marathons that I would like to have done, I am going to have to do bikes.’

She added: ‘They said for life I will be in pain, I will get arthritis, I don’t want to rely on painkillers, that’s not me…’

The mother-of-five went on to reveal that doctors had told her she was lucky as if she’d landed on her back she would have been paralysed, and if she’d landed on her head, she would have died.
