Two people were taken to a major trauma unit this afternoon following a drunken knife fight in a London park that saw one man arrested.

Paramedics treated three people at the scene and took two to hospital after the attack in Finsbury Park, North London, shortly before 3pm.

The Metropolitan Police said a group of men were drunk and fighting in the park, and officers arrested one person on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

A police spokesman said: ‘Police in Haringey are dealing after a man was injured in a fight. Officers were called at 2.42pm on Tuesday, July 21 to Finsbury Park, N4.

‘It was reported that a group of men were intoxicated and fighting in the park. Officers attended and found one man with apparent stab wounds.

‘London Ambulance Service attended and the man has been taken to hospital, his injuries are not thought life threatening. A second man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. A crime scene is in place. Enquiries continue.’

And a London Ambulance Service spokesman said: ‘We were called at 2.51pm today to reports of a stabbing and assaults in Finsbury Park.

‘We dispatched three ambulance crews and an incident response officer. We treated three people at the scene and took two to a major trauma centre.’

It comes after a man last night became the 11th London murder victim in 17 days after dying from a serious head injury in Ealing. A 36-year-old man was arrested.
