Kyle Sandilands insists he has ‘no regrets’ over THAT lie detector scandal in 2009

Kyle Sandilands and his co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson sparked outrage in 2009 when a 14-year-old girl appearing on their 2Day FM radio show was asked about her sexual history during an on-air lie detector test.

On Sunday night’s episode of 60 Minutes, the 48-year-old shock jock was unrepentant over the scandal, which saw him fired from Australian Idol and his popular radio program taken off the air for two weeks.

When asked by 60 Minutes reporter Karl Stefanovic if he and Jackie, ‘had any regrets with that,’ Kyle swiftly answered that he did not.

No regrets? Appearing on Sunday night’s episode of 60 Minutes, shock jock Kyle Sandilands (pictured) was unrepentant over the 2009 lie detector scandal where a 14-year-old rape victim was quizzed about her sexual experiences live on air during his 2Day FM radio show

‘None. Well, we did nothing,’ he replied simply to the question.

Jackie was more repentant, saying for her part, ‘I think lesson learned about what is going too far. I wasn’t a mother back then.

‘There’s no way I would do that now. If someone suggested that as a segment, I would know, no, we’re not putting a young girl on a lie-detector test.’

Jackie is mother to Catalina ‘Kitty’ Mae Henderson, nine, who she shares with her former husband, photographer Lee Henderson.

The radio star further insisted that she and Kyle ‘hated’ such controversies.

She revealed: ‘At the time I remember people saying, ‘Oh, this is what they want. ‘They want people to talk about them. ‘They want to be scandalous’. ‘They plan to do those things’.

‘And I swear to you, we’ve never planned. When they happen, it is not nice and we hate it. I hate it personally.’

Jackie went on to say that she ‘worried’ about her co-star and that he may one day say something that ends his career.

‘That is probably the hardest part when working with Kyle, is that he has this really beautiful side. And then with that comes this other side that you just think, “Oh no, why do you have to say that? Why?” I don’t know why I get nervous for him’.

Turning to Kyle beside her, Jackie added: ‘Because I’m always worried you’re going to say something that will one day just ruin you’.

Controversy: In August 2009, a teenage girl became emotional during a lie detector segment on the pair's 2Day FM breakfast radio show and reluctantly admitted she had been raped when she was 12 years old. Pictured in 2009

Kyle then replied: 'Right... is that the only [sexual] experience you've had?' At that moment, Jackie swiftly cut off the segment and announced the show's hosts and producers had no prior knowledge of the rape. Pictured in 2009

In August 2009, a 14-year-old girl became emotional during a lie detector segment on the pair’s 2Day FM breakfast radio show and reluctantly admitted she had been raped when she was 12 years old.

At that moment, Jackie swiftly cut off the segment and announced the show’s hosts and producers had no prior knowledge of the rape.

It was too little too late, however, and the segment became a major news story. Even 2DayFM advertiser Optus announced it was appalled by the incident.

Amid the backlash, Network Ten confirmed that Kyle had been axed from the judging panel of Australian Idol.

Ten programming boss David Mott said at the time: ‘We thank Kyle for his contribution to Australian Idol over the last four years.

‘But it has become increasingly clear that as Idol has remained a family-focused show, even more so this year with the 6.30pm Sunday time slot, his radio persona has taken on a more controversial position over this period which is not in the interest of the show.

‘The recent controversy surrounding Kyle’s radio program has highlighted more than ever the conflicting attitude of the two careers.’

Kyle’s Australian Idol contract was reportedly worth $1million.

Meanwhile, The Kyle and Jackie O Show was put into ‘indefinite recess’ for two weeks by Southern Cross Austereo.

In August 2013, Kyle and Jackie O announced that they would be moving from 2Day FM to KIIS FM.
