Kylie Minogue, 52, makes history as Disco tops the UK’s Official Albums Chart beating Little Mix

Kylie Minogue has become the first female artist to score a Number 1 on the UK’s Official Albums Chart in five consecutive decades.

The singer, 52, topped the album charts on Friday with her brand new album, DISCO, beating Little Mix’s Confetti to the top spot and in doing so made chart history.

Kylie has scored a number one album in the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, and now the 20s, and in another new record, DISCO also marks the biggest opening week of 2020 so far in the UK, with 55,000 chart sales.

The impressive sales goal is also Kylie’s biggest opening week in 10 years, since 2010’s Aphrodite.

And if that wasn’t enough records to break, the princess of pop has now surpassed the likes of Sir Elton John, Sir Cliff Richard and George Michael in the all-time league of acts with the most UK Number 1 albums, with eight chart-toppers to her name.

In a statement, Kylie said of her new number one: ‘Official Charts Company, thank you so much! DISCO has entered the charts at Number 1!

‘I don’t know what to say, I’m lost for words, thank you to everyone who has supported this album and this campaign, it means the world to me. I’m so touched that it’s made it’s way to your hearts. I love it!’
