Location Location Location viewers annoyed by ‘fussy’ couple with £425,000 fail to find a house

Location Location Location viewers slammed a couple with a £450,000 budget who missed out on their dream home in Sheffield because they spent too much time ‘fussing’ over whether to buy the house.

In last night’s episode of the Channel 4 show, recent graduates Liz and Luke were looking to relocate from Hartford to Sheffield to buy their  ‘future-proof three-bedroom home’, with a big kitchen and enough space for them to grow a family.

But despite an impressive budget of between £350,000-£450,000, the couple turned down three of the properties on the show and returned to view a their dream home in Dore for a second time before putting in an offer.

After they were outbid by another buyer by £70,000, viewers criticised the couple, with many suggesting they had missed out on the property because they had been ‘too fussy’ and ‘picky’ while looking for homes.

One wrote: ‘I swear to god, the more money people have to spend on houses, the fussier they are! I’d have snapped up all those houses, even the one that had orange everywhere.’

Another commented: ‘This couple are so annoying. Maybe if they only had half the budget they’d be less picky. Some people would be grateful for ANY roof over their head.’

As they began their property search, Luke said his girlfriend was the ‘brains of the operation’, while he was the ‘donkey’.

Phil said he was nervous about the market at the moment because it has been ‘busy’, while Liz said she wanted to go with her ‘gut’, adding: ‘When I know something is right, we’ll take the leap.’

The couple kicked off their search in the leafy suburb of Fulwood, and viewed a ‘project house’ on the market for between £425,000-£450,000.

The three-bedroom property would be a fairly big project, but with Luke’s father on hand to help out, Liz wasn’t put off, saying: ‘It might just take us longer than we were thinking.’

She said: ‘I think the worth in this house is potential. You could make it the most amazing family home.’

But Luke said he couldn’t imagine the pair living in the home, suggesting: ‘With it being at the top end of our budget, it’s the amount of money we’d have to spend.’

Meanwhile the second home they visited was in Woodhill, with Phil explaining the couple have gone up in size but down in price – with four bedrooms and three bathrooms on offer in the house.

Unlike the last property, the property had already been renovated, with a large extension at the back of the house offering a spacious kitchen and dining room.

With an additional gym space and a cinema-room in the basement, all for an incredible £395,000, Phil thought the home would be perfect for the couple.

But Liz wasn’t sure, saying there ‘wasn’t much room for projects’ in the house. She called the work-out room and cinema space ‘mad’.

The first property was on the market for £425,000 and had plenty of room for improvements, with space for an extension and improvements inside

Luke felt the home was ‘ticking a lot of boxes’, but Liz was underwhelmed, saying: ‘It doesn’t feel like our home. I am struggling to picture myself here. I’m leaning towards the project side actually.’

He was disappointed, saying that they could buy something ‘lovely and done’ if they went for the home.

The third property Phil took the couple to was in Dore, which they said was their ideal destination because it felt like they were ‘in the Peaks.’

The 1950s family home featured another family-sized kitchen, contemporary sitting room and three-bedrooms.

Liz said she was ‘really impressed’ by the size and the design of the home, but Luke was a little unsure, saying: ‘I’m not 100 per cent. I’m not sold.’

Meanwhile there was also plenty of potential to extend, with room for a two storey-extension on the side of the house.

It wasn’t until they viewed a fourth property with very ‘snug’ bedrooms that they reconsidered the third property they’d looked at.

The extended semi would make a great family home – with an enormous kitchen and dining room, two flood lit living rooms and three-cosy bedrooms.

Despite the house being on the market for just £425,000, the couple felt unimpressed by the property, with Liz saying the garden felt ‘overlooked’.

Liz said she would ‘really like to plan the kitchen ourselves and plan every single part of it’, adding:  ‘I’m not getting the feeling.’

Instead, the couple went back to view the third house, and ended up putting a bid in for £425,000.

Phil said there were 20 viewings over the weekend, adding that their best chance was to secure the property before the viewings began.

He said: ‘Our couple are chain-free, willing to move and they love the house.’

He asked the agents to take the offer before the weekend and before showing the house to any other people.

But the agents ultimately received an offer from someone else, who offered £70,000 more than the couple.

However viewers slammed Luke and Liz for being too ‘picky’ as the reason they missed out on their dream home.

One person wrote: ‘Give it up Liz, programme should be called ‘picky, picky, picky.’

Another commented: ‘Some people need to stop being so picky and just make do, like the rest of us.’

A third wrote: ‘Christ what is it with this series! There is always one nauseating couple that you really want to slap.’
