A 40-year-old man has been charged with stabbing a policeman as the officer responded to an incident in London.

Mohim Hussain is due in Westminster Magistrates’ Court today after the incident in Maida Vale on Tuesday night.

The officer was left ‘seriously injured’ when he was knifed in the arm, but has been discharged from hospital.

The Met Police Federation tweeted: ‘Sad to report a serious injury to a colleague last night. Stabbed in west London.

‘We wish him well and he is being fully supported. Thankfully injuries are not as bad as they could have been.

‘Yet again shows the dangers Metropolitan Police officers face each and every every day.’

Hussain was yesterday charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a knife in a public place.

A Met spokesman said: ‘Detectives investigating an incident in which a police officer received a stab injury to his arm have charged a man.

‘Mohim Hussain, 40, of Ashmore Road, W9, was charged on Wednesday, 29 July with Section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of knife blade / sharp pointed article in a public place.

‘He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court, today, Thursday, 20 July.

‘The charges relate to an incident in Ashmore Road, W9 on Tuesday, 28 July where a police officer sustained a knife wound.

‘The officer injured has been discharged from hospital and his injuries were non-life-threatening.’
