M. Night Shyamalan confirms Matthew Perry’s 2016 story of partying with the wrong Indian man

It seems that some of writer-director M. Night Shyamalan’s real-life stories have surprising twists just like his movies.

Back in 2016, Matthew Perry appeared on The Graham Norton Show, where he revealed a story where he thought he was partying with The Sixth Sense filmmaker… only to be told that the man he was with was not Shyamalan.

In an incredible twist, Shyamalan revealed on Friday’s episode of The Graham Norton Show that he was actually hanging out with Perry… but not for the whole night.

Shyamalan appeared on Norton’s program via video conferencing to promote the second season of his Apple TV Plus series Servant, which debuted on Friday.

He was asked if he was familiar with the story that Perry told back in 2016 that he was partying with who he thought was M.Night Shyamalan, only to be told by a friend the man he was with was not, in fact, the filmmaker of Indian descent, and just, ‘a random Indian dude.’

The Philadelphia native said he was in fact familiar with the story, confirming they did actually hang out, and, using his, ‘amateur sleuth’ skills, he believes he figured out what happened.

‘I’m watching it, and here’s the twist. We did actually hang out! That’s actually what’s so astonishing,’ Shyamalan said

‘So we were hanging out and we were having fun, and Matthew’s like, “Let’s go to another place,”‘ Shyamalan began.

‘And I’m like, “I’m a little tired, I’m going to leave here and you can go to the other place.” Meanwhile, there’s this kind of fan that’s been hanging about and he’s also Indian. And he’s a big fan, he’s come over a couple of times, wants to hang out with us,’ Shyamalan added.

‘What I think happened is Matthew went on to continue partying and this other Indian dude joined him. And then later in the evening, his friend said, “That’s not M. Night Shyamalan” and then Matthew had second-guessed himself that we actually had this evening together,’ Shyamalan added

‘All these years later I have to see him because we did hang out, we had a great time and he was very funny,’ Shyamalan concluded.

During Perry’s initial tale on The Graham Norton Show in 2006, Perry revealed that he had first encounter with Shyamalan, ‘about 15 years ago’ when his The Whole Nine Yards co-star Bruce Willis won the People’s Choice Award for Best Actor, and Willis asked him to present the award.

Perry then said at the after party he had met both Haley Joel Osment and Shyamalan, adding that the now-infamous story he told happened about ‘six months later,’ after their first meeting, which was ‘back when I was drinking.’
