Mandy Moore will be ‘soaking in every single moment’ of This Is Us after news of the show’s end

Mandy Moore shared that it would be hard to let go of her long-running primetime soap This Is Us on Friday after news of its cancellation became official.

The 37-year-old actress and singer shared a bittersweet Instagram post quoting Dan Fogelman, the creator of the series.

Mandy gushed that she would be ‘soaking in every single moment’ of the series’ final 18 episodes, which will air in early 2022.

Fogelman mused on the difficulty of saying goodbye to something meaningful in his own post.

‘Whoever casually first said “All good things must come to an end” never had to end their favorite thing,’ he wrote. ‘While sad to have just 1 season left, also grateful to NBC for letting us end the show how, and when, we always intended.

‘We’ll work hard to stick the landing,’ he added, along with the hashtag, ‘#ThisIsUs.’

Mandy sounded determined to savor the end of the series in her own comment.

‘Officially official. One season left of my favorite job,’ she wrote. ‘You can bet we will be soaking in every single moment.’

Moore also shared Fogelman’s post in her Instagram Stories with more commentary.

‘I’m already VERY emotional about my favorite job coming to an end. BUT…. We have a whole season to wrap things up the way it was always intended,’ she wrote.

The actress, who welcomed her first son August Harrison with her husband Taylor Goldsmith in February, also shared a lovely photo of her pregnancy days as she cradled her baby bump in a beige satin sleeveless dress.

‘I miss my bump,’ she wrote, adding, ‘But love being able to squeeze my little man even more.’

News of the series’ ending was first reported on Wednesday by The Hollywood Reporter, but it wasn’t until Friday that NBC confirmed the news.

The network also shared that the series would be moving to a new start date as a mid-season show in early 2022.

The spot is usually reserved for shows to make up for newly canceled series, but it’s an intentional choice, as that start date will allow the show to air all 18 episodes without any major breaks between them.

‘Obviously because of COVID this year, [This Is Us‘] schedule has been on-and-off, and we want to honor the fans by making sure have the best viewing experience possible,’ said NBC Universal Television’s Chairman of Entertainment Susan Rovner on Friday, according to TV Line.

‘By putting it at midseason, we’ll have the least interruptions possible,’ she explained. ‘I think it’ll be a great event for the fans to enjoy this incredible show.’

Due to pandemic-based interruptions, the series has been star-stop and only once was able to air three episodes in a row.

DailyMail.com has reached out to representatives for NBC for comment on the cancellation of This Is Us.

The show has been an awards dynamo with Emmy nominations for drama series and for stars Ventimiglia, Moore, Sterling K Brown Brown and Metz.

The final season is expected to have 18 episodes, which will bring the total number of series episodes over 100. That number means producers could get a generous ‘off-network syndication deal’ according to the site, which would mean a big pay day for Fogelman and Disney, which now owns the series.

There have been hints over the years that the show would conclude. In May 2019, sources told THR that season six would ‘likely be the last.’

Also Fogelman said in 2019 the show would not run a very long time.

‘We never set out to make a television series that was going to last 18 seasons, so we have a very direct plan. I have script pages I have written and I’m writing that really are deep, deep, deep into the future. We have a plan for what we’re going to do, and I know what the plan is,’ he told THR.

Fogelman also said during season three the series was at ‘midpoint.’

This comes after Moore joked her baby son might need ‘therapy’ after seeing her aged up for This Is Us.

The 37-year-old actress’ portrayal of Rebecca Pearson in the NBC drama series requires her to transform to both older and younger versions of the character and she quipped she was worried her facial alteration would have a traumatic effect on her two-month-old son August, who is known as Gus.

Mandy shared a video of herself in April in full aging make-up while breastfeeding the tot and said in the Instagram Story clip: ‘That’s a wrap on season five. Now I’m just feeding my child. I hope he’s not gonna need therapy for this later.’

Later in the day, Mandy – who is married to Taylor Goldsmith – shared another video of herself in bed and with all traces of the character removed, and expressed her gratitude for the longevity of the drama series.

She told her fans: ‘Just got home and got into bed and feeling really grateful.

‘I cannot believe we’ve done 88 episodes of television. It is beyond my wildest dreams and comprehension.

‘And just feeling incredibly grateful to have a job that I am so fulfilled by, and so grateful to all of you who continue to watch and support the work that all of us are doing, especially during such strange times over this past year.

‘So, thanks for hanging in there with us. And more to come!’
