Married At First Sight’s Michael Goonan has revealed the throwaway remark that made him doubt Stacey Hampton’s denials about sleeping with Mikey Pembroke.
The 28-year-old admitted that his now ex-‘wife’ warned him of the accusations before they filmed the dinner party, but insisted she only ‘went for coffee’ with Mikey.
As the evidence then started to mount up against her in front of the group, he began to see that ‘things didn’t add up’ compared to what Stacey had said beforehand.

Discussing the episode on Married At First Sight’s YouTube channel, he said: ‘Before we got to the dinner party, she goes, “I think there’s going to be a rumour coming out that I hooked up with Mikey – but we only went out for coffee”.
‘I was wondering why she told me like that? It didn’t add it. Then it came out that she slept with Mikey and I thought I’d give her the benefit of the doubt.’
Michael admitted he then started to doubt Stacey as Mikey presented text messages between them as evidence, where they spoke about him leaving her hotel room.

He continued: ‘Then she says there’s no messages, and out comes the phone. I still wanted to defend her and I think the world of her. She’s a great mum, lovely person and sat on a big secret, which would have been really hard to handle.’
The Adelaide Ice company director also spoke about how Stacey had made him ‘grovel’ after he kissed Hayley Vernon, despite her secret cheating scandal.
Michael said: ‘She made me grovel and jump through hoops and feel so guilty, she really crippled me. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to face. Especially in front of everybody, it was gut-wrenching.’
