MasterChef Australia BEATS Married At First Sight as the most-watched finale of the year after hitting two million viewers

This year’s season of MasterChef Australia has proven to be a recipe for success.

The season finale of the cooking competitor was the highest-rating program on Monday night, reaching an impressive two million viewers nationally.

The episode had a metro audience of 1.523 million, as well as a regional viewership of 477,000.

The actual winner announcement attracted 1.261 million metro viewers and 383,000 regional viewers.

MasterChef’s season 12 premiere had drawn more than 1.22 million viewers in April, and the series continued to dominate the ratings throughout its run.

Making Channel 10’s ratings coup even sweeter, MasterChef has overtaken Nine’s once-unbeatable Married At First Sight as the most-watched reality show finale of 2020.

Married At First Sight reached a slightly lower national audience of 1.95 million when its season seven finale aired back in April.

By contrast, The Voice’s finale on Sunday night had 1.24 million viewers nationally.

Seven’s MKR: The Rivals, meanwhile, had a disappointing national average of 873,000 for its finale in March.

Monday’s ratings victory also reflects the undeniable popularity of MasterChef’s new judging panel Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen.

The trio replaced outgoing judges Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris, who had previously hosted MasterChef for 11 years before being dumped in July 2019 after reports of a pay dispute.

Melissa, Jock and Andy recently confirmed they will return to the judging panel for MasterChef’s thirteenth season.
