MasterChef fans accuse Jock Zonfrillo of being ‘corrupt’ over Poh’s dish

MasterChef fans accuse Jock Zonfrillo of being ‘corrupt’ and showing ‘favouritism’ to Poh Ling Yeow after he praised her lemon sponge cake over more elaborate mystery box dishes

MasterChef fans are accusing judge Jock Zonfrillo of being ‘corrupt’ and showing ‘favouritism’ towards Poh Ling Yeow after he chose her as the winner of Wednesday night’s mystery box challenge.

Poh had managed to beat co-stars Laura Sharrad, Simon Toohey and Sarah Tiong – who arguably created more complex dishes – with her simple lemon sponge cake with lemon curd and torched Italian meringue.

All of the judges agreed that the cake was a winning dish, but viewers singled out Jock for what they considered his ‘blatant’ bias in favour of Poh.

‘It was so obvious!’ MasterChef fans are accusing judge Jock Zonfrillo (pictured) of being ‘corrupt’ and showing ‘favouritism’ towards Poh Ling Yeow after he chose her as the winner of Wednesday’s mystery box challenge.

Many fans vented out their frustration on Facebook, including one who wrote: ‘Jock didn’t half make that obvious now did he… shame.’

‘Exactly, it was so obvious… these judges are 100 per cent corrupt… so transparent… it’s proven it tonight,’ another agreed.

A third fan commented: ‘If she wins tomorrow [in the immunity cook-off] it’s blatant favouritism!’

Others declared it was a ‘conspiracy’ and a ‘set-up’.

One viewer pointed out: ‘OK so Brendan’s dish was too familiar and safe – despite that it tasted bloody good. But Poh is praised and wins immunity challenge for doing the same thing! Why is Jock so hard on Brendan?’

Meanwhile, several fans noted on Twitter that they were surprised Jock had criticised Laura, who is one of his former employees.

‘Poh won with a cake? Jock criticising Laura? The world is truly ending,’ they tweeted.

Complex: Simon Toohey made a sweet and sour onion dish with coal roasted potatoes (pictured). It was arguably a lot more complex than Poh's relatively simple dish

‘I think the judge wants Poh to win. Hence Jock has to bring up Laura’s potatoes,’ another tweeted.

This isn’t first time fans have claimed to notice favouritism towards Poh, who was the runner-up on the first season of MasterChef.

Early in the season, Poh served up a mille-feuille that wowed the judges – but viewers described it as ‘basic’ and ‘just a vanilla slice’.
