Fan favourite Poh Ling Yeow continued to receive the most airtime on MasterChef Australia on Tuesday night.

The 47-year-old once again completed a challenge with just seconds to spare,  fuelling a backlash among viewers who have dubbed MasterChef ‘The Poh Show’.

Since the Back to Win season premiered on April 13, many fans have vented their frustration over Poh’s disproportionate screen time – forcing her to respond to her critics on Tuesday.

In an Instagram post discussing her latest dish, Poh wrote: ‘To answer those who ask why I keep pushing it with my time limits? Simple.

‘It’s why I came back on the show – to see what’s possible.’

She included a sassy emoji of a woman shrugging next to the hashtag #baker, proving that she won’t apologise for pushing herself.

Tense: During Tuesday's episode, Poh was criticised yet again for giving herself a recipe that was barely possible in the allocated time. As the cameras mostly focused on her, she managed to pull off her Stout Beef Pie with Blue Cheese Crust (pictured) just in the nick of time

As the cameras mostly focused on her, she managed to pull off her Stout Beef Pie with Blue Cheese Crust just in the nick of time, earning praise from the judges. 

However, there was a mixed respond on Twitter, with one viewer angrily tweeting: ‘Time for another episode of “Poh Stares at the Oven”.’

‘Unpopular opinion – I am over Poh. Obviously she’s the judges’ and producers’ favourite, but dial back on the crappy time management drama every single cook,’ another fan wrote.

‘Seriously over Poh whinging about how she’s pushed for time, does it every night. either choose something easier or stop going on about it,’ a third agreed.

A fourth viewer tweeted: ‘The countdown is on to the POH show.  Way too much airtime for my liking.’

However, there was just as much praise for Poh and her pie, with many fans saying they couldn’t wait for a restaurant to offer it on Uber Eats.

Ex-MasterChef star Derek Lau, who starred on the show in 2019, also came to Poh’s defence in an interview with HuffPost Australia on Tuesday.

‘I don’t actually understand why people don’t like Poh. She is herself on the screen as she is in real life,’ he said.
