MasterChef star Reynold Poernomo reveals he was ‘burnt out creatively’ after last year’s Back to Win season

He finished third on MasterChef: Back To Win last year.

And now Reynold Poernomo has revealed he was suffering from creative burnout after he starred on the series.

The 27-year-old dessert king revealed to Newscorp the intensity of the competition drained his creative juices following the intense season.

Burnt out: MasterChef star Reynold Poernomo, 27, (pictured) has revealed he was ‘burnt out creatively’ after the last season of the series while speaking to Newscorp on Wednesday

‘Since MasterChef last year I’ve been pretty burnt out creatively,’ he told the publication.

‘You were literally chucked in there to create new dishes every time you came in to the kitchen, so that was kind of draining.’

Reynold said he has been more concerned with working on his KOI dessert bar business, rather than in it.

Hard work: 'You were literally chucked in there to create new dishes every time you came in to the kitchen, so that was kind of draining,' he said of the show

The star has only just started to make a move back into the kitchen with him building a more immersive menu for KOI.

He added that KOI was also looking to expand into Australia’s culture capital, Melbourne, soon.

Reynold was without a doubt the breakout star on the MasterChef: Back to Win. However, he was hit by scandal in May last year.

It was revealed that Reynold – using the profile name ‘reyreyy’ – had posted a shocking comment in a bodybuilding.com thread from 2014.

The comments were made on a thread titled ‘First gay couple featured on the Disney Channel. Do you agree with them?’

The then 20-year-old wrote: ‘I wish the world made a united decision where they will capture all gay people and put them on a remote island full of gays, that way straight [people] will be happy and the freaks can go on and f**k themselves.’

That comment was followed by another on a thread titled: ‘Is homosexuality a mental illness?’

‘Yes end of thread,’ Reynold responded.

Reynold apologised for the comments. In a statement to Daily Mail Australia, he said he was ‘deeply ashamed’ of his remarks at the time.

‘I would like to offer my sincere and deepest apologies for the comments that I made in 2014. I am ashamed of these comments and I regret them immensely,’ he said.

‘At the time these comments were made, I was a very immature, close-minded and insular 20-year-old. I have grown and matured a lot in the last six years. I am not the person I was back then.

‘I have many friends and colleagues that are part of the LGBTIQ+ community. I wholeheartedly support them and care deeply for them. I am truly sorry and apologise for any offence or hurt I caused.’
