Megan McKenna picks up essentials at the supermarket after announcing release of new music

She sparked a flurry of excitement among her fans on Friday evening, as she announced the release of her latest country track, This.

But Megan McKenna busied herself with the more everyday aspects of life earlier that day, when she was spotted picking up essentials at Sainsbury’s in Essex.

The reality-star-turned-singer, 28, kept herself warm in a long green quilted coat, which she teamed with black leggings and a top under a zip-up tracksuit jacket.

Adding contrast to her casual ensemble with a pair of pristine white socks and matching box fresh running shoes, the TOWIE star donned a black face mask.

With her chestnut brown hair tied back in a bun, the TV personality carried the supermarket chain’s distinctive orange bags as she prepared to head home.

Her outing came hours before she took to Instagram to announce the release of her latest single, This, sharing a haunting snap of herself wearing a black veiled hat.

She wrote: ‘My track This will be released on 19th February… Thank you all so much for being patient, it’s an amazing feeling to finally be releasing music… it’s just the beginning…’

In February of last year, Megan jetted off to Nashville, Tennessee, to work on a second studio album, two months after winning The X Factor: Celebrity.

She had also been slated to support legendary musician Lionel Richie on the British leg of his tour, which had been scheduled to kick off this year. 

However, the impending COVID-19 pandemic all but destroyed her hopes of releasing new music last year, or supporting Lionel on tour.

In December 2018, Megan released her debut album Story Of Me, which peaked at number four on the UK Country Chart.

She documented her foray into the country music world in her 2017 documentary There’s Something About Megan. 

Back in 2017, she told MailOnline: ‘You guys have just seen me on telly [on TOWIE] losing it, going mad when I’ve had a break up.

‘But no one saw the softer side of me with the break up, and I wanted to put that in the song. I really feel like it was a good way of explaining it.’

Discussing her new foray into country music, Megan revealed she was worried about how the public may perceive her.

She said: ‘I think people in the UK have seen me going on all these different shows, and I think they think “Oh, she just wants to be a singer all of a sudden”.

‘But this is something I’ve wanted my whole life. This is gonna make people realise that I’ve worked my whole life for this.’
