The singer, 45, is taking over from previous host Brooke Hogan and will film the model-search show in South Africa’s Sun City Resort in the spring.

According to Variety, Mel said the show, which was created to challenge pre-conceived standards of beauty, is ‘everything’ she believes in.

She said: ‘Finally a show has come along that stands for everything I believe in. Fashion Hero is my dream job because it’s not so much a television show as a movement.

‘When I joined the Spice Girls there weren’t many singers in British girl bands who looked like me. I was different, we were all different and that was something we wanted to celebrate.

‘I have never fitted into any conventional mould and I wouldn’t ever want to. The whole world needs to learn that there is not one thing that makes someone beautiful.’

The first season of the show aired in 2017 and was broadcast in more than 160 territories and featured contestants from around the world.

The challenges contestants are put through are designed to test their self-belief and strength of character.

While Mel will serve as host, representatives from four international brands will become judges and mentors to the contestants.

The winner of the series will front one of their international marketing campaigns, as well as become the ambassador for The Fashion Hero.

Speaking further about her role as host, Mel said: ‘I am so excited to meet all the contestants flying in from all over the world. My favourite thing about The Fashion Hero is their amazing mission.

‘Their goal is to celebrate the beautiful diversity the world has to offer and embrace what true inclusivity looks like.

‘I personally know what it feels like being discriminated against which is why I’m so proud to be apart of their global movement.’

The first season aired on Amazon Prime while an air date for the second series has not been set yet.
