Michael Clarke confirms romance with designer Pip Edwards in radio interview

Former Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke has finally acknowledged his relationship with fashion designer Pip Edwards.

Just one week after the couple were spotted enjoying a romantic dinner in Bondi, Michael confirmed the romance on his Big Sports Breakfast radio show on Monday.

The 39-year-old was asked by his co-host, NRL journalist Phil Rothfield, about his date with Pip, 40, and he didn’t seem in the least bit embarrassed.

The cheeky discussion started when Phil brought up that Michael had been featured in the ‘spotted’ section of a newspaper, but he didn’t mention who with.

‘You know what? I did the right thing by him, I didn’t mention your female company at the table,’ Phil said.

Michael responded with a laugh: ‘Why not? Listen buddy, you can always mention my female company. How dare you leave that out.’

The father of one appeared to be referring to Pip, who had accompanied him to dinner at Bondi’s Society Pizza restaurant last week.

The couple didn’t hold back during their outing, and at one stage Pip was spotted nuzzling her head into Michael’s shoulder.

They had been spotted together a day earlier in Rose Bay, and even appeared to be holding hands.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Michael has been telling friends he wants to keep the relationship ‘low-key’ for the sake of his and Pip’s respective children.

Michael shares four-year-old daughter Kelsey Lee with ex-wife Kyly Clarke, while Pip is mother to Justice Maximus, 12, with former Ksubi designer Dan Single.

Last Wednesday, Pip appeared to confirm her romance with Michael with a rather cheeky Instagram post.

The Bondi socialite shared a mirror selfie and said that she was wearing her ‘boyfriend’s blazer’.

In the image, Pip looked stylish in straight-leg jeans, a white T-shirt and a black jacket, which she teamed with Burberry boots.

She captioned it, ‘Me in my boyfriend(‘s) blazer,’ adding three wink-face emojis.

A boyfriend blazer is an oversized, boxy style of blazer, but Pip’s telling use of parentheses suggests it was actually the blazer belonging to her boyfriend.

Interestingly, Kyly has maintained a dignified silence by not posting on social media since the photos from Sunday night were published.

But despite their denials, it’s understood they were in fact an item.

The couple reportedly ended things in April because Michael couldn’t handle the publicity that came with dating Pip, and she later spoke of ‘being alone at 40’ in an interview with Gritty Pretty magazine.
