Quiz star Michael Sheen says he’d love to host Millionaire IN CHARACTER as Chris Tarrant… after wowing viewers with his portrayal of the presenter

He’s earned universal praise from fans for his uncanny portrayal of Chris Tarrant.

And Michael Sheen has revealed he would love to command the hot seat as the host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? despite risking the wrath of the show’s current host Jeremy Clarkson.

The actor, 51, revealed he’d love to present the iconic game show in character as Chris, 73, after wowing viewers with his performance in the ITV drama Quiz, which documents the infamous ‘coughing Major’ scandal.

Michael told The Sun: ‘To do it on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? for Quiz and getting to be the person who is so brilliant at doing it as well, I loved that.

‘I’d like to take part as a contestant but I would also like to host it. Not as me, as Chris Tarrant.

‘I’m the sort of person who, when you play board games with the family, I like to be the question-asker, the person in charge. I love that.’

Millionaire is currently hosted by The Grand Tour frontman Jeremy Clarkson, who landed the job when the show returned in 2018 for its 20th Anniversary.

Chris presented the show from its inception in 1998 to 2014, and previously backed ITV’s decision to cast Michael as him.

Michael’s performance has earned universal praise from fans for perfectly depicting Chris’ mannerisms and appearance on the show.

Quiz’s second episode saw Charles and Diana Ingram put their plan into motion, drafting in fellow contestant Tecwen Whittock to indicate each correct answer with a cough.

The couple succeed in winning the show’s top prize, but the episode ends with the couple being arrested for fraud after producers notice Whittock’s coughing during filming.

It sets the stage for the third and final episode depicting the Ingram’s trial and eventual conviction. 

Quiz concludes tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV.
