Michelle Keegan reveals she’s stopped Dry January after just eight days

Michelle Keegan revealed that she has stopped Dry January after just eight days on Friday night. 

The annual campaign sees people temporarily give up drinking for the whole of January to restore themselves after the overindulgence of the festive season.  

The Brassic star, 33, took to her Instagram Story to share a hilarious Friends meme of Rachel Green, played by Jennifer Aniston, pouring herself a large glass of wine on the show.

Showing off her fun side, Michelle captioned it with: ‘Me… 8 days into “Dry January”.’ 

Michelle joins a slew of stars who have abandoned the annual Dry January after just a week of 2021 following the new national lockdown announced by Boris Johnson on Monday. 

Spider-Man star Tom Holland, 24, joked that he gave up Dry January after just 12 hours as he engaged in a hilarious Twitter exchange with his father Dominic on Monday. 

Dominic was first to confess, tweeting: ‘Called time on dry January embarrassingly early but we have a full house – it’s cold and dark outside…’

To which Tom, who is set to reprise his role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3, retweeted his dad and added: ‘I was doing really well…for about 12 hours’ alongside a crying emoji.   

Following Mr Johnson’s drastic measures, put in place to combat a surge in infections and the threat of the NHS collapsing on Monday, people have taken to social media to joke about giving up on trying to be sober in the first month of 2021. 

Celebrities also joined in the urge to give up on being sober, including former winner of I’m A Celebrity Vicky Pattison, and Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan.  

It comes after Michelle  reflected on her highlights of 2020 by sharing unseen snaps from holidays, lockdown life and romantic moments with husband Mark Wright last week.

The actress took to Instagram Stories on New Year’s Eve to spread positivity following the end of ‘the hardest year for most’ as she looked back on her memories.

In one photo from a holiday with husband Mark, 33, taken in July, Michelle said she was ‘thankful’ while posting another snap alongside her dad and brother from a different family break. 

Michelle begun by saying: ‘Time to reflect on 2020… While it’s probably been the hardest year for most, I wanted to end it on a positive note and highlight my favourite memories of 2020…’

Looking back at January last year, Michelle shared a photo from a holiday that featured TOWIE’s Mark and his sister Jess, 35, as well as other friends and family.

The TV star reflected on the dazzling outfit she wore to the Brit Awards, saying wearing the sparkly thigh-split dress was a ‘highlight’ for her.

Despite looking glamorous for the music ceremony, Michelle revealed she was dotted with spot cream just hours before making her red carpet appearance. 

Michelle detailed one of her favourite memories from last year, when she flew to Tenerife with her brother to surprise her dad for his 60th birthday.

Alongside a snap of Michelle with brother Andrew and dad Michael, she said: ‘Safe to say we had an amazing time… I’m thankful for these memories.’

The photo showed the star in a black and white bikini smiling with her family beside her, as they all enjoyed cocktails in a swimming pool.

She also looked back at life in lockdown – and being able to spend more time with her dogs, doing puzzles and exercising.

Michelle shared a photo of her wearing a red sports bra and grey leggings inside a gym, saying: ‘Thankful I was able to get back into my training.’

The former Coronation Street actress also reflected on the warm summer, beach days and romantic picnics with Mark ahead of the turning of the year.

In one unseen snap, Michelle shared a haircut she attempted on Mark when barbers were closed – and admitted she was ‘thankful’ for not pursuing hairdressing as a career.

The image showed Mark’s hair badly shaven and uneven as he sat for the haircut in the couple’s back garden.

In reference to her acting and modelling career, Michelle said: ‘Thankful for working with people who always make me smile’ and ‘thankful to be back to work, although there has been a few changes.’ 

She finished the roundup by posting a childhood photo of her wearing a red striped dress and white cardigan, waving goodbye to the year.

Michelle said: ‘See you 2020, although you’ve been horrendous, you’ve also taught me a huge life lesson. It’s the little things that matter in this world.

‘Happy New Year everyone. Here’s to 2021, lets make it count.’
