Moment firefighters smash through wall to rescue a dog trapped behind it for FIVE DAYS – before reuniting her with her owners

Heroic firefighters have been caught on camera as they smash through a wall to rescue a dog that had been trapped for five days before reuniting it with its owners.
Gertie the dog went missing in Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 13 and owners Connie Frick and Lynn Herman put up missing posters all over town.
After five days a neighbour heard cries from behind a garage wall, and spotted the pooch through a hole in the floorboards of the room above.
The dog had fallen down a gap behind the garage, and was wedged between it and a wall.

After about ten minutes, Ms Adkins was able to reach in and pull the dog to safety, who then ran straight over to elated owners Connie and Lynn

With no way of lifting Gertie out, Cincinnati Fire Department cut a hole in the concrete block wall with saws and a sledgehammer.
Footage filmed by fire apparatus operator Daniel Meyer shows firefighter Jenny Adkins using a sledgehammer to smash through the concrete wall.
After about ten minutes, Ms Adkins was able to reach in and pull the dog to safety, who then ran straight over to elated owners Connie and Lynn.
‘It was just so sweet, just wagging that little nub tail, and she was just so, she was so excited,’ Ms Frick told WXIX-TV.

Gertie managed to escape when Lynn was coming through the front door on July 13 and ran off into the woods.
It is thought that the escape artist fell down a hole in the roof of the garage and had been stuck there for the entire time she’d been missing.
Resident Vanessa Roland heard a dog crying behind her neighbour’s garage wall and alerted them to the noise last Sunday.
