Five London hospitals, St George’s, University College Hospital, St Bartholomew’s Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, nominated two members of staff each to take part in the glamorous day.

The event, organised by event management company Concorde Media in collaboration with fashion and beauty photographer Amanda Akokhia, saw the frontline workers treated to new outfits, new hairstyles and stunning make-up.

Aster Camer, a paediatric staff nurse at St George’s Hospital, who took part in the shoot, said: ‘I am sure I’m not the only one who has felt exhausted at times because of this pandemic but its little things like this – a nice makeover, a warm meal with colleagues, and an excuse to feel special and glamorous even just for a few hours – that helps us get through.’

She was snapped striking a pose in a beautiful sequinned gown.

Stephanie Argue, a clinical trial coordinator at University College Hospital, added: ‘I really enjoyed my day and I’m very grateful for being included.

‘I was able to bring my mum, Susan, along who also really enjoyed herself and said how proud she was.’

To complete the experience, the NHS workers were treated to lunch from a nearby Italian restaurant and enjoyed visits from stars including Brain Conley, and former Love Island contestant.

Speaking prior to the event, photographer Amanda said: ‘I believe the photo shoot will be a day to take memorable images of these heroes who continue to risk their lives to treat patients in these very challenging times.

‘I would like to use the photo shoot to bring a positive message to everyone including all key health care workers that all their hard work is and will always be much appreciated.’
