Samuel has played Nick Fury in a slew of films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and most recently appeared in Avengers: Endgame and Spiderman: Far From Home in 2019.

The latter film ended with the explosive twist that the Fury viewers knew was actually a Scrull, and with the real Agent in command of the alien race’s spaceship.

Olivia won her first Academy Award in 2019 for her role in The Favourite, and has also been lauded for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in series three and four of The Crown.

The reports come just days before the 2021 Oscars, where Olivia is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Father.

Currently the star is in the midst of filming the Sky drama Landscapers, where she plays the killer Susan Edwards.

Olivia will appear opposite Harry Potter actor David Thewlis in the drama as the murderous couple Susan and Christopher Edwards.

The pair were jailed for life after shooting Susan’s parents in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, in 1998 and burying them in the garden, where they lay undiscovered for 15 years.

After landing the role Olivia said: ‘I love Ed’s scripts… just as well as he cooks many of my meals. It’s rare to be desperate to play a part on the first reading of a script, but that was the case here.’
