Phoebe Burgess threatens to spill all about her split from Sam Burgess

Mum-of-two Phoebe Burgess and her ex-NRL star husband Sam divorced in December, after five years of marriage.

The couple’s split was anything but amicable, after Sam was found guilty in February of intimidating his former father-in-law during a heated argument over their children, and was later arrested for allegedly failing a roadside drug test in the same month.

While Phoebe, 32, has said little about their tumultuous relationship in the past, she hinted on Instagram on Friday that she was ready to speak out on their demise.

‘You can be sure I have a lot more to say’, she wrote alongside a picture of her photo for glossy magazine Marie Claire Australia.

Sam is appealing against his conviction for intimidating Phoebe’s father Mitch Hooke at the family’s home near Bowral two weeks after their marriage break-up in October 2019.

The former South Sydney captain was not appearing in person at the New South Wales District Court sitting in Goulburn in the state’s Southern Tablelands on Friday.

Sam launched the appeal immediately after being found guilty at Moss Vale Local Court on February 5.

Magistrate Robert Rabbidge had accepted the evidence of Mr Hooke that Sam threatened him by saying, ‘I’m going to get you’, in a confrontation at the Hooke estate, known as Daffodil Downs.

‘An enraged, angry Sam Burgess would indeed be a frightening figure to most Australians,’ Mr Rabbidge had found.

He sentenced Sam to a two-year community correction order and imposed a two-year apprehended violence order to protect Mr Hooke.

Mr Rabbidge rejected the suggestion Mr Hooke had made a false complaint to police as part of an orchestrated campaign to destroy Sam and his career.

Mr Hooke and Phoebe have admitted co-operating with a reporter they both knew who in October last year wrote stories accusing Burgess of wild partying and domestic abuse.

Sam was accused of intimidating Mr Hooke, there was never any allegation of actual physical violence.

Phoebe’s Marie Claire interview saw her divulge details on how 2020 was such a difficult year for her amid her split from Sam, 32.

‘[Self-doubt] is such a hard thing to go through. I would say marriage is a place I doubted myself and sacrificed a lot of myself,’ she said.

‘I had to make myself smaller. I think a lot of women can relate to that in relationships.’

She also spoke out about the love she has for the children she shares with Sam; Poppy, three, and son Billy, one.

‘I’m proud that I’ve been able to keep soldiering on and putting my children’s needs first,’ she added.

The outing comes a month after her ex-husband Sam was arrested after allegedly failing a roadside drug test while on his way to pick up his two young children.

The former rugby league footballer was also charged with driving an unregistered vehicle without a valid Australian licence.

He was pulled over at 1.30pm on February 22 by police near the Southern Highlands property where Phoebe lives with their children.

The embattled NRL star was meant to pick up his children at 2pm, after missing a first collection time at 9am, according to The Australian.

Police will allege he returned a positive roadside drug test for cocaine, and that he has never held a New South Wales drivers licence.

He is expected to appear in Moss Vale Local court on May 4, facing charges of ‘drive vehicle, resident more than three months – not obtain a licence’ and ‘use unregistered vehicle’, NSW Police said last month.

The charges came just three weeks after Sam was found guilty of intimidating his father-in-law Mitchell Hooke, after a heated clash out the front of the Hooke family home in the aftermath of his messy break-up with Phoebe.
