Pop star Katy Perry in legal battle with Australian fashion designer Katie Perry over alleged trademark infringement

Katy Perry is locked in a legal battle with an Australian fashion designer over copyright infringement Down Under.

The designer launched Federal Court proceedings against Katy in October last year.

Katie, who has had the trademark Katie Perry since 2008, claims that the singer and her company, Killer Queen LLC, are infringing on her trademark by selling clothes in Australia with a name that is ‘substantially identical with, or deceptively similar to’ her trademarked name.

Pop princess Katy ‘will not be giving evidence herself’ at the trial, said Katie Perry’s barrister, Richard Cobden, SC, at a pre-trial hearing on Thursday.

In a written defence, lawyers for the Teenage Dream singer denied copyright infringement and stated that Katy used her own name in good faith.

Katy Perry’s official merch store currently sells a number of clothing items, including sweaters, T-shirts, hoodies, socks, and onesies.

She also has a separate brand called Katy Perry Collections that sells handbags and shoes.

According to the lawsuit, she has plans to release other items under the Katy Perry name, including pyjamas, pencil cases, and even cat-ear headbands.
