Back to work! Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall will visit NHS workers at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in their first public outing since the start of lockdown

  • Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall will return to public duties today

  • Charles and Camilla have been in isolation in Birkhall since the start of lockdown 

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall will return to work today in their first public outing since the start of lockdown. 

The royal couple, who have been in isolation at Birkhall, Aberdeenshire, since March, will visit the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital this afternoon.  

Charles, 71, and Camilla, 72, will spend 30 minutes meeting 20 NHS workers who have been on the frontline of the Covid crisis in the hospital grounds.

The visit will enable their Royal Highnesses to thank them personally for their continued commitment and contribution in response to the COVID 19 pandemic. 

The Prince and The Duchess will meet a range of healthcare professionals including clinicians, volunteers, clinical psychologists, members of the domestic team, senior biomedical scientists, junior doctors, members of the social work team and other frontline workers from the health and care system. 

There have been 1,378 recorded cases of COVID-19 in Gloucestershire, with 649 patients admitted to Gloucestershire NHS hospitals, including 91 to critical care. Of the 649 patients hospitalised, 162 died.

As of yesterday there are just 12 patients with COVID in the two hospitals, with a further 29 awaiting test results.
