Radio host Kyle Sandilands explains why he’s seemingly immune to ‘cancel culture’

‘If anyone’s going to lose, you think I would’: Radio host Kyle Sandilands explains why he’s seemingly immune to ‘cancel culture’ despite a string of controversies

He’s been a magnet for controversy over the years, but there’s no sign of radio host Kyle Sandilands being ‘cancelled’ anytime soon.

The KIIS FM presenter, 49, admitted during an interview with 2SM‘s John Laws on Wednesday that he’s seemingly immune to ‘cancel culture’.

When asked about his longevity in the industry, Kyle said he couldn’t understand how he’d lasted so long in an era when scandals can end careers overnight.

‘A lot of people have asked that, because, really if anyone’s going to lose in this “cancel culture”, you’d think I would,’ he said.

Kyle continued: ‘I’m like a cockroach. I survive against all odds.

‘I don’t know how because I just speak my truth, so it might not be someone else’s truth. It might not actually even be the truth.’

‘Cancel culture’ is when a public figure is thrust out of the limelight after saying or doing something considered offensive or objectionable.

Disgraced chef Pete Evans is a recent example of a once-popular star who has been ‘cancelled’ for his controversial opinions.

He was dropped by more than 15 sponsors and pulled from the line-up of Channel 10’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! last year after sharing an offensive neo-Nazi meme on Facebook.

During the same interview, Kyle addressed an incident which had caused a huge amount of controversy: his comments about the Virgin Mary in 2019.

Kyle said he wouldn’t repeat what he’d said, but did acknowledge he’d ‘learned a lesson’ – something which ‘doesn’t happen often’.

Kyle’s no-holds-barred interview comes after he bought a $1.3million home in Port Douglas, Queensland, with his girlfriend, Tegan Kynaston.

The home is an entertainer’s dream for Kyle and Tegan, 34, and features a blue-tiled infinity pool which looks out to the hinterland.

He announced the purchase on air last week during an interview with The Amazing Race host Beau Ryan.

‘I just bought a house up there [in Port Douglas], it is that beautiful,’ he said.
