Ramona Singer says she ‘educating’ herself on racial injustice after ‘all lives matter’ comment

Ramona Singer is walking back a comment she made saying ‘all lives matter,’ in response to nationwide Black Lives Matter protests and the death of George Floyd. 

The 63-year-old replied to fans in her Instagram comments on Tuesday and is now saying she was not ‘educated enough,’ when she made the initial comment over the weekend.  

‘I wasn’t educated enough on the cause,’ Singer said. ‘I’m sorry.’

Two days prior, Singer responded to a fan who called on her for action and to voice her support for Black Lives Matter

‘ROMANA WHAT THE F**K U DOIN GIRL! USE UR VOICE,’ the fan wrote. ‘BLACK LIVES MATTER.’ (sic) 

To which Singer responded ‘all lives matter.’ 

Her most recent apology come after her Real Housewives of New York co-star Leah McSweeney called her out on Instagram, sharing the interaction to her Instagram stories, highlighting Singer’s comment and placing a palm face emoji in response.

Initially on Tuesday, the reality TV star posted a black square, with a white heart in the center, in support of Black Out Tuesday and Black Lives Matter. 

Black Out Tuesday aims to shut down social media for all uses except those on racial injustice, Black Lives Matter and nationwide protests. 

‘#BlackOutTuesday,’ she wrote alongside the graphic. ‘“Darkness cannot drive darkness; Light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; Love can do that.” – Martin Luther King, Jr. #istandwithyou #strongertogether.’

Fans were quick to flood her comments with questions about her change of attitude.

In the comments of her post supporting Black Out Tuesday fans asked her about her change of tune from ‘all lives matter’ a phrase which is typically used to draw attention away from the racial injustices Black Lives Matter fights for.  

‘I wasn’t educated enough on the cause,’ Singer said on Tuesday. ‘I’m sorry.’

Adding: ‘I apologize for the misinformed comment.’

Background: Protests began last week after George Floyd was videotaped in police custody with an ex- Minnesota police officer kneeling on his neck and as many as two others on his body, for nearly nine minutes, until he lost consciousness and ultimately died on Memorial Day

One of the four cops, Derek Chauvin, was charged with third degree murder on Friday, after all lost their jobs. 

Demonstrations continued for the seventh straight day on Tuesday. More than 7,200 people were arrested across 43 cities in the country over the weekend, according to CBS News.  

Los Angeles county was on its third day of a curfew after over 500 arrests were made Friday night during late night protests.
