Rising Manchester United star Mason Greenwood SPLITS from model girlfriend Harriet Robson

Rising Manchester United star Mason Greenwood and his model girlfriend have split, MailOnline can reveal.

Greenwood, 18, who is considered one of the brightest prospects in the English game, had been dating stunning Harriet Robson for just over a year but she took to social media earlier this week to confirm that they had parted company.

A friend told MailOnline: ‘They’d been having a lot of problems and let’s just say, it wasn’t the best of relationships. I think the lockdown put an extra strain on things and Harriet is just relieved to be single again.

‘It’s very sad because at one point, they were really in love, but a lot of difficult things happened between them and Harriet feels that this is for the best.’

Responding to questions about what ‘was going on with Mason’ from some of her 99,000 Instagram followers, Ms Robson, 19 revealed: ‘no nothing just agreed to split up right now.’

When asked if she had cheated on United’s new striking sensation, she adamantly wrote: ‘No.’ In another response she added: ‘says up there I cheated on him but I didn’t so was just making it clear.’

Ms Robson, who is sponsored by a number of leading clothing brands has removed all the pictures of her and Greenwood together from her Instagram account and he has done the same.

In January, to mark their one-year anniversary, Greenwood posted: ‘First-year together completed, what an amazing year it’s been with you. Thanks for being there for me every single day, I couldn’t ask for anyone better I love you #1yeartogether.’

News of the split caused heated debate amongst Ms Robson’s Instagram followers with one posting: ‘Just give him a second chance. You’re awesome, and Mason too, don’t split up right now. He is becoming a superstar as day go by and that affected him in a way. Give him a second chance and it will not disappoint you. He is a good player and worker.’

Greenwood and Ms Robson are from Wisbey, near Bradford and have known each other since their school days at Ashton on Mersey School in Greater Manchester.

The striker was still at the school when he became Manchester United’s youngest ever player in the Champions League, making his debut against Paris Saint Germain at the age of 17 years and 156 days.

Dubbed United’s ‘new wonder kid’ he broke into the first team squad this season, scoring a remarkable ten goals before football came to a close due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Greenwood is also beginning to establish himself within the England set-up, scoring his first Under 21 goal during a friendly defeat in Holland last November.

One friend told MailOnline: ‘Harriet has been instrumental in Mason’s career. But things became very rocky between them. They’ve both got a lot going for them and are young enough to find love again.’
