They went on to share the screen four years later in the comedy film Volunteers, and their relationship blossomed as they filmed the flick together.

Although their connection was strong, the actor was married to his first wife and college sweetheart, Samantha Lewes, at the time.

The former couple shared a son named Colin, aged 43, and a daughter named Elizabeth, 38.

Hanks and Wilson went public with their relationship five years after they initially met, even though the actor was still married to his first wife, whom he would later divorce in 1987.

A year after the actor’s initial union was dissolved, the new couple tied the knot and have remained close ever since.

The performers went on to welcome two sons named Chet, aged 30, and Truman Theodore, aged 25.

In the early months of 2020, the couple made headlines by announcing that they had contracted COVID-19, and they later donated blood samples to be used for medical research.

After she recovered from the effects of the virus, Wilson spoke to The Guardian and told the media outlet that she was happy to have had her husband by her side as they recovered together.

‘I think that having the virus at the same time made it that little bit easier…We were taking care of each other instead of having the pressure of taking care of one person,’ she recalled.

The actress also remarked that she and her husband were able to empathize with each other during their fight against COVID-19, which she was glad to have been able to do.

‘We were fortunate we were in a place where we understood what the other was going through,’ she said.
