Rob Mills wants to host Australian Idol revival… after making his name on the show’s inaugural 2003 season

He became a household name after placing fifth in Australian Idol’s inaugural 2003 season.  

And now Rob Mills wants to return to the series that made him famous, throwing his hat in the ring for hosting duties in an interview with TV Tonight

‘Wouldn’t it be great if there was an Australian Idol alumni to host a new series of Australian Idol?’ teased the 38-year-old.

Channel 7 has announced a revival of the hit reality TV series is slated for 2022, after Channel 10 made the decision in 2010 to ‘rest’ the format amid poor ratings.   

It’s not the first time Mills has expressed his enthusiasm for the Idol reboot. 

‘I think any platform that showcases Australian talent is a great show,’ the performer told The Daily Telegraph in November.

Rob went on to criticise Australian radio stations for their lacklustre support of local talent.

‘To be honest, I think our radio stations do a horrible job of promoting Australian artists – do you know what time they play Australian music? From midnight to 6am,’ he said. 

Mills recently made a shock return to Neighbours, after his character Finn Kelly famously drowned on the long running series.   

He’s currently starring in Chess the Musical, which tours nationally from April to June 2021.
