Ryan Reynolds leaves Twitter users in disbelief by revealing his middle name is Rodney

Ryan Reynolds stunned even some of his most loyal fans on Thursday morning, after casually revealing that his middle name is Rodney over Twitter.

Despite his full name being easily accessible with a quick Google search, many of the actor’s 16.9 million followers expressed disbelief, with one even tweeting that the fact was completely unexpected even after following his career for ‘nearly two decades.’

While promoting Mint Mobile, the 44-year-old Deadpool star compared ‘paying $90 a month for wireless’ to his middle name, which he joked existed and could be used, ‘but it sucks so why would you?’

He concluded: ‘Instead, pay $90 for SIX MONTHS at https://mintmobile.com.’

In response, one of his skeptical fans wrote: ‘PLEASE tell me your middle name is actually Rodney.’

‘It is indeed, Rodney,’ replied the father-of-three, who is married to actress Blake Lively confirmed, as others inquired about his parent’s choice.

‘Did you ever ask your parents why Rodney? I mean, it could be worse. It could have been your first name,’ another asked.

Amid the onslaught of jests at his middle name’s expense, one Twitter user wrote: ‘Just when all the Rodneys in the world are breathing a sigh of relief that 2020 is finally almost behind them, along comes Ryan to give them one last swift kick in the balls.’

Others dubbed him having ‘having three initials with the same letter’ as ‘unusual.’

‘Definitely easier for a parent to yell for their child using their full name. Plus, they won’t forget your name to begin with if their are many siblings. Genius. Love your work!’ one fan mused.

In November, Reynolds’s middle name did not come up as many pushed to have a street named after him in his hometown of Vancouver, Canada.

The efforts were short-lived, however, as he hilariously shot down the hosts and producer of The Kevin and Sonia Show With Tara Jean’s efforts on social media.

Using a charming dose of his infectious, self-deprecating humor, the Golden Globe nominee tweeted: ‘Very kind but hard pass.’

‘If traffic sucks everyone will say, ‘Ryan Reynolds is a mess’ or ‘Ryan Reynolds is really backed up.’

He added, ‘My brothers would enjoy this too much.’

If Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart took action on the effort, the actor explained his three brothers — Jeff, Patrick and Terry — would be able to torture him with playful good humor.

Despite the rebuff, radio host Kevin Lim, who helped launch the petition, hasn’t given up on the effort just yet.

‘OMG @VancityReynolds responded to our petition to name a street after him in Vancouver!!!’ Lim tweeted.

Moving forward? The radio show behind the petition asked fans and followers whether they should continue to the push for the petition despite Reynolds' polite rejection

‘Should we keep it going? Even if it’s just so his brothers can make fun of him?’

In making the case for petition, Lim and his cohorts on the radio show revealed Reynolds ‘has not only has he captured our hearts on the big screen, his humanitarian efforts have made him a beloved local treasure who encapsulates the best of Vancouverites, and fully deserving of this recognition in his hometown.’

They even listed some of the charitable contributions Reynolds and his wife have made for his hometown in 2020 alone.
