Rylan Clark-Neal reveals there were plans to raise Anne Diamond on a crane during Big Brother finale

Rylan Clark-Neal has revealed sensational plans that were intended for the Big Brother finale but shelved at the last minute.

He took to Twitter on Wednesday night during the most recent instalment of Big Brother: Best Shows Ever, which aired an episode from 2009 which saw a task involving famous faces being raised above the garden on cranes intermittently.

Rylan tweeted: ‘Fun fact. We tried to arrange to send Anne Diamond up on a crane at the #BBBOTS finale whilst I sang “shine bright like Anne Diamond”….. insurance wouldn’t cover it. Would have been a lovely moment. Shame!’ [sic]

The tweet was met with much disappointment that this never came to pass.

The plan, evidently, was to reinstall the crane so that Rylan could serende the TV presenter while Rihanna’s hit Diamonds was belted out.

This was set to take place on the last ever episode of Big Brother’s spin-off show Bit On The Side, which Rylan hosted.

Big Brother’s iconic narrator Marcus Bentley retweeted Rylan’s post – and also answered another BB fans question on Twitter while he was at it.

Rylan tweeted: 'Fun fact. We tried to arrange to send Anne Diamond up on a crane at the #BBBOTS finale whilst I sang “shine bright like Anne Diamond”..... insurance wouldn’t cover it. Would have been a lovely moment. Shame!'

The voiceover star, whose famous drawl has navigated the surveillance reality show since its debut in 2000 on Channel 4, replied to a Twitter follower who stated he didn’t enjoy Channel 5’s first CBB line-up in 2011.

‘Yes the first line up on 5 was c**p!’ he replied.

CBB 8 marked the move to Channel 5, after Channel 4 decided to end its broadcasting deal with the show in 2010.

Channel 5 mixed things up in 2011 when they took the reins of the show, by airing a summer edition of CBB before the civilian version.

While Channel 4 had previously broadcast the civilian series in the warmer months and the celebrity incarnation in January, Channel 5 ended up producing two CBB series a year, with regular BB sandwiched between.

The CBB 8 line-up saw TOWIE starlet Amy Childs, X Factor twins Jedward, reality personality Kerry Katona and actor Lucien Laviscount congregate for the show.

They were joined by politician’s wife Sally Bercow, model Bobby Sabel and Hollywood actresses Pamela Bach-Hasselhoff and Tara Reid.

Tara and Jedward famously struck up a surprising friendship, and the trio have even been in lockdown together in the US during the COVID-19 crisis.

Rounding things up were PR agent Darryn Lyons – famous for his bizarre fake abs – and eventual winner Paddy Doherty, who starred in Big Fat Gypsy Weddings.

But this line-up seemingly didn’t float Marcus’ boat, despite it marking the show’s triumphant return after Channel 4 seemingly pronounced it dead.

In 2010, Channel 4 aired CBB 7 – which saw Alex Reid crowned winner – in January, followed by regular Big Brother 11.

Josie Gibson won that and was surprised, on exit, to learn that winning the series granted her immediate re-entry to the house for the last ever Channel 4 offering – Ultimate Big Brother.

This brought back a mixture of iconic housemates – both from civilian and celebrity versions of the show – to co-exist for one last season.

Josie dropped out of this relatively early, upset by being placed into a house of ‘famous people’ when she wasn’t one.

The eventual winner was Brian Dowling, who went on to host Channel 5’s Big Brother until he was replaced with Emma Willis.

The nostalgia trip comes as E4 celebrates Big Brother: Best Shows Ever – a 10-part re-airing of Davina McCall and Rylan Clark-Neal’s favourite ever episodes.

Fans relived the iconic duet between Ulrika Jonsson and the late Verne Troyer during a shopping task from the sixth celebrity edition in 2009 on Wednesday night’s show – leaving them emotional.

The TV presenter, 52, and the Austin Powers star, who passed away in April 2018 aged 49, transformed into Diana Ross and Lionel Richie as they belted out the lyrics to Endless Love.

Viewers were left feeling emotional as they lauded the Gladiators host for helping the shy actor perform their rendition in front of their fellow housemates.

Big Brother: Best Shows Ever continues at 9PM on E4.
