SBS reveal which eight renowned Australian names will join this year’s Who Do You Think You Are?

Lisa Wilkinson, Bert Newton and Lisa Curry will join five other big names in Australian entertainment to trace their ancestry on the popular SBS series, Who Do You Think You Are? 

The beloved genealogy program returns in May, and will feature some of the most recognised faces in Australian media, sports, music and politics. 

The Project panelist, 57, Good Morning Australia presenter, 81, and former Olympian, 57, will discover where they came from during season 11 of the long-running program.

On Tuesday, SBS announced five more iconic Australians will join the star-studded cast, including politician Julie Bishop, comedian Denise Scott and singer Troy Cassar-Daley, and actors Kat Stewart and Cameron Daddo.

The journey for this year’s selection of star will span across several centuries and continents, according to SBS Head of Commercial and Production Chris Irvine.

‘[Who Do You Think You Are? is] guaranteed to move and entertain audiences,’ Chris told TV Blackbox.

He added: ‘This season spans centuries of history and crosses continents to unearth extraordinary genealogical revelations for some of the country’s most beloved Australians.’

Bert Newton has enjoyed an illustrious career for more than half a century and is recognised as being one of the major players to shape Australian entertainment into what it is today. 

‘If only you can go back in time,’ Bert – who started his career at In Melbourne Today in 1959 – says in the trailer for the show as he tears up.

Lisa Wilkinson is one of the most well-recognised journalists in Australian media today thanks her her long-running stint on Nine’s Today, before moving to Channel Ten for The Project. 

In the trailer, Lisa is seen walking through the bustling streets of Chennai, India, in order to discover her heritage.  

Meanwhile, Lisa Curry, who has 15 gold international swimming medals to her name, also features in her very own emotional episode.

The show also stars AACTA and Logie Award-winning Australian actress Kat Stewart, best known for her role as Billie Proudman in the celebrated Australian drama Offspring. 

And Cameron Daddo, 55, who is a celebrated actor across stage and screen.

He is recognised for his work with the Australian Theatre Company in Holding The Man, and recently starred as Captain Georg Von Trapp in the 2016 production of The Sound Of Music.

Another popular addition to the show’s line-up is Julia Bishop, 63, who was the Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2013 to 2018 and Liberal Party deputy leader from 2007 to 2018.  

Who Do You Think You Are? will return to SBS on Tuesday May 19 at 7:30PM.
