For the last week, Scout – named after the To Kill A Mockingbird character – has been urging her 251K Instagram/Twitter followers to help ‘dismantle white supremacy.’
‘I acknowledge the fact that there have been times when I have not used my voice or this platform to the full extent that I could have,’ Willis wrote last Saturday.
‘This is not about me, and I only share this as an encouragement to not let any self judgement fear, or insecurity keep you from seeing the big picture and working to dismantle systematic racism, starting with your own misperceptions about white privilege.
‘I pledge to foster an online community that is aligned with these values, loving, compassionate, anti-racist, and honest. I pledge to listen to resources from black communities, black women, black leaders, black activists, black authors, [and] black podcasts. I pledge to take the labor of educating myself without waiting to be told it’s necessary.’
