Selena Gomez appears to take jab at Justin Bieber and The Weekend by turning exes into toads

They say you have to kiss a lot of frogs before getting to your prince.

But Selena Gomez was turning all her boyfriends into actual toads in her new music video, Boyfriend.

Selena, 27, has heavily addressed the end of her relationship with Justin Bieber in her new album Rare, but this new video appears to not only be taking a jab at Bieber, but also The Weeknd.

Kissing frogs: Selena Gomez was turning all her boyfriends into actual toads in her new music video, Boyfriend

The video begins with Selena driving around in her convertible, with a cage full of frogs croaking in the backseat.

She pulls up to the dry cleaners, and walks through racks full of clothing before meeting a group of young women playing cards at a table.

At the center of a table lies a glowing bottle of potion, which Selena grabs and stares at momentarily, mesmerized.

Next, Selena is seen over a series of dates with three different men.

The men all seem interested in Selena, who eventually pulls out her magic potion and dabs it onto her body.

The scent of the potion immediately takes effect, and the men begin to transform into the amphibian.

As one man sits back, Selena seductively places her leg on the table.

The man raises his eyebrows, intrigued, but begins to metamorphose into a frog.

Selena smiles as she holds one of the frogs in her hands, before walking back to her car with a small cage full of them.

As she drives away into the night, she eventually stops, where they hop out of the car, freed.

Selena released her third studio album Rare last year, and Boyfriend is the first track from the deluxe edition of the album.

The video may be a jab towards her famous exes Bieber and The Weeknd.

Selena addressed the end of her relationship with Justin in her new album Rare, though recently she gave her ex The Weeknd a mention on her Instagram stories when she shared a track list of music getting her through quarantine including her song, Snowchild.

Interestingly, Boyfriend drew comparisons to The Weeknd’s video Heartless, which sees him begin to transform into a frog after licking one.

Selena also addressed the timing of releasing her new song Boyfriend in a statement posted to her Instagram account earlier this week.

‘Many of you know how excited I’ve been to release a song called “Boyfriend.” It’s a lighthearted song about falling down and getting back up time and time again in love, but also knowing that you don’t need anyone other than yourself to be happy.

‘We wrote it long before our current crisis, but in the context of today, I want to be clear that a boyfriend is nowhere near the top of my list of priorities. Just like the rest of the world, I’m praying for safety, unity and recovery during this pandemic.

‘Because of that, I’m personally donating to the Plus 1 COVID-19 relief fun as well as donating $1 of every order in my official store to the fun starting now. Rare (Deluxe), featuring Boyfriend is out April 9.’
