He said he wanted to pay tribute to young cricketer Cameron Green, who had just been handed his Baggy Green cap before his first ever test match.

The 21-year-old was handed the iconic cap by Australian cricket vice captain Pat Cummins.

Shane said it was also his way of paying homage to one of his favourite TV shows, Peaky Blinders.

The British period drama stars Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy, and many of the characters wear flat caps.

Fellow commentator and former cricketer Adam Gilchrist was the one to quiz Shane about his cap, prompting a subtle dig from his friend.

‘I didn’t want to do the Baggy Green cap. Silly people do that at Wimbledon,’ explained Shane.
