What about him! Shannon Noll insists he’s perfect for Australian Idol reboot panel after reports Guy Sebastian is ‘in talks’ to remain on The Voice

A whopping 17 years have passed since Guy Sebastian controversially beat runner-up Shannon Noll on the inaugural season of reality TV show Australian Idol.

And now Shannon ‘Nollsie’ Noll is hoping to return to the franchise in a victorious full circle moment – without Guy.

Speaking to Nova’s The Babble on Monday, Shannon claimed he would be the perfect person to be a celebrity judge on Australian Idol’s 2021 reboot on Seven.

What about him! Shannon Noll has insisted he’s perfect for Channel Seven’s Australian Idol reboot panel after reports former rival Guy Sebastian will remain on The Voice

During the 2003 finale, Guy looked visibly stunned after being named the winner and was graciously congratulated by runner-up Shannon.

At the time, many fans were outraged that Guy had won the popular vote and insisted that Shannon was ‘robbed’.

Shannon, now 45, went on to release his cover of Moving Pictures’ What About Me?, which eventually reached No. 1 on the ARIA chart.

His industry success and fame however has not reached the same heights as Guy, now 39, has achieved the years.

When news of an Australian Idol reboot was first reports, Shannon was immediately keen to get involved.

His hopes were also high when he assumed Guy would remain as a host on The Voice and open up a potentially available spot on the judging panel for him.

‘I did actually mention that to my manager,’ the singer joked.

Shannon said it would be a great opportunity to come ‘full circle’ and show ‘how far we’ve [he and Guy] have come’ on respective talent shows.

‘Time will tell with that, but I’m definitely keen to have a part in it in some way. I think apart from Guy I’d be the next one to have the most experience with that sort of high-pressure environment, with that sort of journey. It’s a very unique experience so hopefully some input in some way would be great,’ Shannon pitched himself.

The Voice is also set to air on Channel Seven for the first time in 2021, after the Nine Network failed to renew its contract.

Guy has been a judge on the singing program for two years with Nine, but it’s unclear if he will move to Seven to continue his role.

In October, when speculation about an all-new judging panel was rife, Guy revealed that he and his fellow judge Delta Goodrem were ‘in talks’ to stay on as celebrity coaches on the series.

‘I’ve had a conversation [with Seven], as has Delta,’ the 38-year-old said at the time. ‘Obviously they’re going to talk to the existing coaches and tell them what their plans are.’

However, Guy’s recent appearance on Nine’s A Current Affair this month has hinted that he would continue working with the Nine network in 2021.
