Aussie singer Sam Fischer spoke candidly about his good friend Demi Lovato’s battle with sobriety in an interview with The Kyle & Jackie O Show on Thursday.

Speaking to hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, the 29-year-old praised the American songstress for being a ‘strong woman’ and ‘powerful person’. 

‘It’s incredible. She’s so open, she’s so honest. I met her at a really interesting time in her life, because she’s been through so much… She’s just so open,’ he said.

‘I was like, “I’m so sorry you went through all that,” and she was like, “You know what, now I’m just a ball of wisdom. If you ever go through something and you need someone to talk to, just give me a call.” She was really sweet.’

Sam collaborated with Demi, 28, on the new single, What Other People Say, and acknowledged ‘she’s been through a lot’. 

Demi has been open over the years about her ongoing battles with sobriety and mental health.

In an interview with the podcast, Yeah No, I’m Not OK, in March, Demi spoke about her often difficult recovery.

‘Everything had to happen in order for me to learn the lessons that I learned,’ she said at the time.

‘It was a painful journey, and I look back and sometimes I get sad when I think of the pain that I had to endure to overcome what I have, but I don’t regret anything. I’m so proud of the person I am today.’

The former Disney star almost died following a drug overdose in July 2018, which left her in intensive care, legally blind and fighting for her life.

She returned to rehab in August that same year after admitting she’d relapsed following six years of sobriety. 

Demi first entered rehab at the age of 18 to deal with mental health issues and substance abuse issues after assaulting a dancer on her tour.
