Strictly 2020 FINAL: Elizabeth Hurley wows in sequin dress as she makes surprise cameo on the show

Elizabeth Hurley was at her best on Saturday evening as she made a surprise appearance during Strictly Come Dancing’s finale.

Adhering to the show’s sparkly theme, the actress, 55, stunned in a plunging blue dress by Philipp Plein as she stood in front of a shimmery wall for her brief video cameo, which saw her inform viewers about the voting rules.

In a bid to scoop the Glitterball Trophy, contestants Bill Bailey, HRVY, Jamie Laing and Maisie Smith performed three times to win viewers’ votes, the Judges Pick, their Showdance and their favourite dance of the series.

The Austin Powers star beamed as she addressed the nation, stating: ‘Hello Claudia [Winkleman], hello everyone!

During the show, finalist Bill and his professional partner Oti Mabuse earned the first perfect 30 of the night as the last episode brought the series to a close.

The comedian wowed the judges with the fiery dance to Queen’s The Show Must Go On, and later paid homage to the track after much of London and South East England was plunged into Tier 4 of COVID-19 restrictions. 

HRVY and Janette Manrara started the show with their Jive to Faith by Stevie Wonder feat. Ariana Grande, and earned universal praise from the panel, coming close to perfect score with 29 points out of 30.

Jamie and Karen Hauer then took to the floor to dance their Hercules-themed Charleston to the track Zero to Hero, and was also praised by the panel for his vast improvement, earning a score of 26 out of 30. 

Maisie and Gorka Marquez were the fourth and final couple to dance their Judges Choice, and took to the floor with teir carnival-themed Samba to Samba (Conga) by Gloria Estefan. 

This year’s Strictly had been thrown into doubt by restrictions introduced by the COVID-19 pandemic, and celebrities were forced to move out of their homes to form ‘bubbles’ with their professional partners to ensure the show could go ahead.

Earlier in the evening, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that a third of England will be locked into a new system from midnight to help to combat the pandemic.
