Recalling she was seated next to Prince Philip and Prince Edward, Susannah declared ‘my wardrobe malfunction was spectacular.’

‘I was in this wonderful Valentino dress that my dad bought me and I was eating this soup and suddenly I felt a breeze and realised the straps had ripped,’ she recalled.

Luckily the royal household staff came to the rescue, as Susannah explained: ‘My boobs were out, almost dropping into the soup, and without saying anything a butler came with two safety pins and fixed it in the back and I put my boobs back in place.’

Susannah also touched on the close relationship she enjoyed with Princess Magaret, telling the Loose Women she ‘had a big impact on my life in a very positive way,’ adding that the late royal was particularly supportive after her mother was diagnosed with manic depression.

‘When my mum was sick she was someone I could turn to and she was a strong and powerful influence on me.’

Susannah also spoke her 20 year friendship with her former TV co-star Trinny Woodall, explaining that the two have always been close, despite her own struggles to accept the end of their TV partnership.

‘We were Trinny and Susannah for so many years, I’d get stopped in the airport and get recognised and then I didn’t have my other half, I had to just be Susannah and I went into mourning, it was very hard,’ she explained.

‘It was a bit of a double whammy, I lost my identity totally. I lived as someone else for 20, 15 years and then came out of it and thought who the hell am I? it’s like a divorce where we’re best friends after it.’

‘I did turn into the woman Trinny and I had always helped [on What Not To Wear],’ Susannah added of the hit makeover show she and her friend used to present.

‘I lost all my confidence, I put on weight, my self-worth was on the floor but then I did this thing for Sport Relief that meant I had to get fit very quickly and that turned my life around.’
