‘Suspicious’ car ‘collides with two pedestrians’ in London

Police search ‘suspicious’ car and arrest driver after it ‘hit two pedestrians’ in London’s Sloane Square

  • A London cab driver witness told how he saw the car slam into the two victims

Police were today searching a ‘suspicious’ car and have arrested a driver after it ‘collided with two pedestrians’ in an upmarket area of London.

Officers were called to Sloane Square in the west of the capital on Wednesday lunchtime and found the grey Kia abandoned.

The two victims were taken to hospital and offices near the crash were evacuated as a precaution.

A London cab driver who witnessed the crash told how the car mounted the pavement and drove off.

Harry told the Mirror: ‘He was travelling westbound coming from Eaton Sq, as he approached Sloane Square he veered to the wrong side of the road and hit one man who looked like he was late 50s then another younger man who smashed his windscreen.

‘The car kept driving for a couple of metres with this man on the bonnet. After he fell to the ground car sped round the corner to Sloane Street.’

Scotland Yard said: ‘Police are on scene in Sloane Square, SW1 where they are dealing with a vehicle which has collided with two people.

‘We await a condition update. The car was found abandoned.

‘Cordons were put in place and buildings in the surrounding area were evacuated as a precaution while officers searched the vehicle.

‘A man was subsequently arrested arrested for driving offences. Further details await. Enquiries continue.’

It later confirmed the incident was not being treated as terror related.

London Ambulance Service added: ‘We were called at 12:08pm today (3 June) to reports of a road traffic collision involving pedestrians on Sloane Square, Kensington.

‘We dispatched two ambulance crews and a medic in a car, with the first of our crews arriving in under four minutes.

‘We treated two men at the scene and took them both to hospital.’
