Tavi Gevinson takes Karlie Kloss to task for not denouncing Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump

Tavi Gevinson takes Karlie Kloss to task for not being ‘more embarrassed’ by her brother-in-law Jared Kushner and his wife Ivanka Trump

Tavi Gevinson struck out at Karlie Kloss on Wednesday for her relationship with President Donald Trump’s family.

The 24-year-old writer and actress slammed the 27-year-old model for not denouncing her brother-in-law Jared Kushner and his wife Ivanka Trump in more forceful terms.

She made her fierce critique in the comments of a mild post Karlie shared on Instagram about how to combat racism, which was inspired by the death of George Floyd in police custody last week.

Not having it: Tavi Gevinson, 24, lambasted Karlie Kloss on Instagram on Wednesday for her ties to Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump after she shared a mild post about fighting racism

Though Karlie’s post offered some suggestions for ways to combat racism, including talking to family members, it didn’t address issues currently on the minds of protestors, like the impact of systemic racism or police violence against black people.

The former Rookie Magazine editor appeared to find the post hypocritical in light of Karlie’s connection to Jared and Ivanka.

‘Karlie, give it a rest,’ she wrote in exasperation. ‘You have a lot of nerve to make a show of championing girls’ coding and your family in public (lame @ you ignoring ivanka on social media; she still went to your wedding),’ she wrote.

‘I can’t believe you’re not more embarrassed not just by them but YOUR decision to only publicly disown their politics in polite ways so you can have it both ways.

Tavi acknowledged that Karlie might feel differently in private, but she was only concerned about what the runway star chose to say in public.

‘I don’t know what kind of conversations you have behind the scenes (besides when Jared asked your dad to solicit solutions to a global pandemic in a Facebook group back in March) but like…….what am I looking at. This is a f***ing joke.’

In a follow-up comment, she tagged Joshua and suggested he ‘grow a spine.’

Karlie is married to Jared Kushner’s brother Joshua, and she apparently has a strained relationship with Jared and Ivanka.

In January, she revealed that she voted ‘as a Democrat in 2016’ and that she ‘planned to do the same thing in 2020.’

Despite her concerns with Jared and Ivanka’s policy views and their connections to Donald Trump, Karlie still invited the couple to her wedding festivities.

In March, it was reported that Jared Kushner had asked Karlie’s father, a doctor, for advice on how to coordinate the US response to the coronavirus pandemic, despite him not being qualified for matters of that scale.

The conversation suggested that she might have been closer to that side of the family than she had indicated.
