The Bachelorette: Mary Viturino calls out lack of diversity

Bachelor In Paradise’s Mary Viturino calls out the lack of diversity on the Australian dating franchise… as fans petition for Niranga Amarasinghe to be the next Bachelor

Bachelor In Paradise’s Mary Viturino has called out the lack of diversity on Australia’s version of the global dating franchise.

The 32-year-old reality star shared photos of the former and new Bachelorette stars to her Instagram stories on Thursday and claimed Channel 10 missed an opportunity to cast someone racially diverse.

‘While every single one of these women are beautiful, inspiring and deserving to find love, I was hoping Bachelorette would listened to the Australian public – who have been asking for more diversity,’ she wrote, picturing the seven suitresses.

‘Especially when there are some boss indigenous past contestants like Brooke Blurton and Renee Barrett to choose from,’ she suggested.

Mary was reacting to Wednesday’s Bachelorette Australia announcement, which revealed sisters, Elly and Becky Miles, would be the new dual Bachelorettes in a global franchise first.

Elly was a popular contestant on Matt Agnew’s season of The Bachelor last year but her older sister Becky is new to television.

Former Bachelorette stars include Sam Frost, Ali Oetjen, Sophie Monk, Georgia Love and Angie Kent.

Mary’s post also suggested POC had a lack of screen time across the franchise, as she added: ‘Niranga on BIP as an example.’

Her frustration comes as Bachelor In Paradise viewers also have called for Niranga Amarasinghe to be the next Bachelor.

The 28-year-old was brutally shut down by Cassandra Mamone on Wednesday’s BIP episode after Brittney Weldon refused to go on a date with him.

‘Channel Ten, Niranga needs to be the next Bachelor because the lack of interest in him is just some straight up BS,’ one person tweeted.

‘Niranga for Bachelor 2021… an absolute sweetheart. Let this poor man experience being the number one guy in the room for once,’ another person commented.

Another wrote: ‘Where do I sign the petitions for Brittney to be the next Bachelorette and Niranga to be the next Bachelor? Give them both a house full of potential dates to choose from please.’

‘Niranga for Bachelor with potential matches from varying backgrounds. Give us the diversity we want and deserve,’ one person said.

Bachelor In Paradise continues on Sunday from 7:30pm on Channel 10
