The release of The New Mutants has been pushed back to August 28 by Fox/Marvel, remaining on track to come out prior to Labor Day, Deadline reported.

The Josh Boone film casts Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Anya Taylor-Joy and Henry Zaga as a quintet of young mutants coming into their own while imprisoned in a secret facility, according to the studio.

They’re in a ‘fight to escape their past sins and save themselves’ in the summer superhero release, the studio said.

The coronavirus pandemic has complicated what was already a tricky situation for the movie, which has been pushed back five times – some for planned reshoots – with Wednesday’s announcement.

Previous release dates for the movie included April 13, 2018; February 22, 2019; August 2, 2019; and April 3, 2020.

Another move that was delayed on Wednesday was the animated film Ron’s Gone Wrong from Jean-Philippe Vine and Octavio Rodriguez. 

The movie, which tells the tale of an 11-year-old and his best friend, who is a robot, was delayed from February 26, 2021 to April 23, 2021, Deadline reported.

In addition, a number of notable names in the world of entertainment have publicly confirmed testing positive for the virus, including Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Idris Elba, and singer Pink.

As of Monday, the death total for COVID-19 was at 78,343 people in the U.S., with 1,382,304 total positive diagnoses, The COVID Tracking Project reported. On a global level, 295,671 people have died amid 4,330,982 positive diagnoses worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University.
