The stars who turned down The Masked Singer: A former politician and radio host claim they were approached by the hit Channel 10 show

The Masked Singer Australia has so far announced three of the characters who will be performing in season two, which begins filming in the coming weeks.

But two big names revealed on Thursday that they’d been approached to take part in the hit Channel 10 show, but turned down the offer.

Former politician Christopher Pyne told Triple M Hot Breakfast hosts Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy that he’d been asked to join the cast.

‘I was very close to saying yes’: Former politician Christopher Pyne revealed on Thursday that he’d been approached to star in The Masked Singer season two, but turned down the offer

He said: ‘What you probably don’t know… is that I was asked to do The Masked Singer this year. And I came very close to saying yes.’

McGuire, who is the president of Collingwood Football Club, then blurted out: ‘I was as well!’

When Pyne asked what costume he would have picked, McGuire said: ‘I don’t know, but I might have worn the Collingwood Magpie mascot or something out there.

‘But you and I, we could have had a duet!’

Thanks, but no thanks! Triple M Hot Breakfast host Eddie McGuire also confirmed he'd been asked to perform, but politely declined

‘You couldn’t have worn the jail bar, that’s against the law,’ the former defence minister replied, referring to Collingwood’s black and white striped colours.

Eddie also told the Herald Sun that he was ‘flattered’ by the offer, but said: ‘It’s a bit like my football career; all I lacked was ability.’

The revelations come after the first three masked singers were unveiled this week: the Dragonfly, Frillneck and Echidna.

Channel 10 also announced on Thursday that comedian Urzila Carlson had replaced Lindsay Lohan as a judge – two weeks after it was revealed that the Dubai-based American actress would be unable to return for season two due to coronavirus-related travel restrictions.

A network spokesperson said: ‘It’s Urzila Carlson! The hilarious comedian is joining the guessing panel alongside Dave Hughes, Jackie O and Dannii Minogue! Can she crack the clues and figure out who’s under the masks?’

Filming for season two was scheduled to begin filming this month in Melbourne, but has been delayed because of the escalating pandemic.

An exact air date for the show has yet to be confirmed by Channel 10.
