The Wiggles boss leaves the group after 24 years… after they were forced to ‘stand down’ touring staff

The Wiggles’ managing director, Paul Field, has parted ways with the entertainment group after 24 years. 

The company confirmed to Daily Mail Australia on Thursday, Paul left in March as the business is ‘going through a period of organisational change’. 

‘The Wiggles thank Paul for 24 years of service and for his leadership and dedication during that time. The Wiggles wish Paul all the best in his future endeavours,’ the statement read.

‘The business is currently going through a period of organisational change and is seeking new leadership to steer the business through the current environment and to explore new opportunities in the ever-changing entertainment landscape.’ 

Paul is the brother of the Blue Wiggle, Anthony Field, who joined the group in 1979 alongside retired members Murray Cook, Greg Page and Jeff Fatt. 

The trio were replaced by ‘Yellow Wiggle’ Emma Watkins, ‘Purple Wiggle’ Lachlan Gillespie and ‘Red Wiggle’ Simon Pryce.

This comes after The Wiggles were forced to lay-off touring staff, after cancelling a number of planned shows amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to Perth Now on Thursday, Blue Wiggle Anthony confirmed the decision: ‘We’ve had to stand down our beautiful cast,’ he said.

‘A lot of our dancers, the lady that goes around and sells the merchandise, truck drivers, sound crew — it’s heartbreaking.’

The veteran children’s entertainer, said that while they do have an online presence, it is not the same as performing for their little fans.

Purple Wiggle Lachlan, 34, told the publication: ‘It’s been really hard; the people who work with us are like family.’

The Wiggles had to cancel dates on their Fun and Games Australian tour in March.
