Confused This Morning viewers questioned why Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield ‘pretended’ that they were hosting the show live on Christmas Day.  

Despite it being standard practice for shows to record as if they they were airing live on the day, some fans appeared irritated by the pretence.

The pre-recorded Christmas Day episode of the magazine show was filmed two weeks ago, but viewers were surprised to realise it wasn’t a live edition.

This Morning was apart of the TV schedule for December 25 for the first time ever, along with other daytime favourites Lorraine and Good Morning Britain.

The excitable hosts enjoyed a festive tipple and tucked into festive snacks as they were joined by Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson.

But some viewers didn’t understand why they were making out the show was filmed live on Christmas Day, with one writing: ‘Why are #ThisMorning pretending that the show is live.’

Another person said: ‘Seriously if #ThisMorning wanted a really convince us it’s live you shouldn’t have stopped people walking behind you on the way to work.’

A third said: “I’ll be going pub” – not live then. As the new tier 4 says no.

Another added: ‘So funny Holly and Phil making out that this is live TV and not pre recorded #ThisMorning.’

While a different person said: ‘People think that #ThisMorning is live on Christmas Day. It’s not – this episode was filmed two weeks ago.’

Clearing things up, another added: ‘People getting angry at #ThisMorning breaking tier 4 rules. It’s not live guys! It was pre-recorded, probably before the new tiers.

‘Do you really think these people would work on Christmas Day? Let’s remember those who actually are. Especially the NHS workers. Thank you!’ 

During the show, Holly was feeling broody for her fourth baby, as she gushed over This Morning alum Rochelle Humes’ newborn son Blake.

During the episode the presenting duo speak to Rochelle, 31, and Holly asked how Blake’s big sisters have been, she said: ‘They are brilliant. They are constantly all over him and fighting about who’s going to hold him and who’s passing me the baby wipes… but it’s really nice, and I think because he’s a boy there’s no competition, they are just trying to be mini mummies!’

Watching Rochelle holding up baby Blake to say goodbye at the end of the chat, Holly gushed, ‘Oh I want one of those…’ Phillip said, ‘No, you don’t! To which Holly replied, ‘I do!’ Phillip responded, ‘No you don’t, you’ve got enough!’ But Holly insisted, ‘OK… but I do!’ 

Holly is mum to her children Harry, 11, Belle, nine, and Chester, six.

Before this moment, the show starts with the excitable hosts wishing viewers Merry Christmas with Holly adding: ‘It’s today! We are very excited to be celebrating with you this morning… and this is the first time ever, the first This Morning Christmas.’
