EXCLUSIVE: ‘I didn’t think I would wake up’: DJ Toby Anstis, 50, feared he would DIE during coronavirus battle as he celebrates getting back to full health with shirtless workout snaps

He feared he might not wake up if he went to sleep as he battled coronavirus, losing a stone in just ten days.

But Heart Dance Breakfast DJ Toby Anstis, 50, told MailOnline he has made a full recovery and has been working out intensively to celebrate getting his health back.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, Toby showed off his muscular shirtless physique as he worked out in the park during the London heatwave.

But he is all too aware of how lucky he is to be back to full health following his horrendous health scare which saw him too weak to call his own ambulance.

He said: ‘I physically and mentally shut down. There was one night where I wasn’t sure if I would wake up in the morning, but I was so ill, I just fell asleep.’

‘I was about two minutes from calling an ambulance at my worst, but didn’t have the strength to pick up the phone.

‘My twin sister Kate called a doctor who came round about midnight one night and he prescribed me steroids to keep the airway in my lungs open.

‘It was pretty bad pneumonia-type symptoms. And I lost nearly a stone in ten days. I completely losy my appetite and could only manage lemon barley water.

‘The cough was debilitating and I was still trying to record links at home for Heart Dance Breakfast.’

He continued: ‘After that, I would crawl back into bed and stay there for the rest of the day. Getting out of bed took half an hour. It took weeks to properly recover.’

Toby has since had a positive antibody test.

Now back to his full health, Toby is back on the airwaves at Heart Dance Breakfast and is thrilled to be back doing what he loves.

‘Things could have been very different,’ he said. ‘I can’t stop thinking about all the people who weren’t as lucky as me. It reminds you to never take life for granted.’

Toby presents Heart Dance Breakfast weekdays from 7am – 10am, and turns up the Feel Good with Heart’s Club Classics on Friday nights from 7pm – 10pm.
